Winstep used to point to a folder in the public documents section, called Winstep, where all the themes were located.

I installed a brand new theme by double clicking an .xtreme file located in my downloads folder. When I tried to apply my previous theme, there weren't any listed.

Winstep is now pointing to a theme folder under ...\program files\winstep\themes, instead of ...\Public\Documents\Winstep\Themes.

How do I get WS to find its theme folder.

If that makes no sense, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

David

Hmmm... weird such a thing would happen. The software has to be backwards compatible with pre-Vista times where everything was installed into C:\Program Files\Winstep\ so at startup it checks for the existence of a couple of folders under \Program Files\ to decide where data files are located.

First exit all running Winstep software, the check C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\ for the existence of two sub-folders: \Licenses\ and \Themes\ . If they exist, you should delete them (but make sure they also exist under ...\Public\Documents\Winstep and that your license key is properly stored under ...\Public\Documents\Winstep\Licenses\ . Then run the Winstep software again, all going well it should point to the right place this time.

what about this: a theme maker creates and stores their theme files in c:\program files\winstep\themes then shares a new theme on a popular theme site as an .xtreme file. I download the file, saving it to my 'downloads' folder. I install the theme from there by double clicking the .xtreme file. Is it possible that, when installing the new file, the system reads the file locations from which the original .xtreme file was made and changes the previous settings?

No, that should not happen.

Well sir, your remedy worked perfectly. I thank you for that.
Not really sure how a duplicate \Themes and \Licenses folder got into my C:\Program Files\Winstep location, but they are gone now.

Cheers and hope all is well with you Jorge.
