The only time I had a report of something like that happening, it had to do with 3rd party software resetting your Windows Registry.

Either that or you logged in as a different user.

Well, settings do not reset themselves.

1. Make the changes you want, then create a backup of those settings (Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Backup)

2. Now exit WorkShelf and restart it. Do the settings remain as they were? If they revert back to default, something (AV software, something else) is preventing WorkShelf from writing to the Windows Registry.

3. If they remain, reboot your computer. Do the settings still remain as you set them? If not, something is resetting any changes you made to the Windows Registry every time you reboot.

4. If the settings reset when doing either 2 or 3, restore them from the backup you previously made. You still have to figure out what is causing the issue, since it will be something specific to your machine.

Let me know how it turned out.

Always try to keep an up-to-date backup just in case. You can use the built-in alarm/task scheduler together with the 'Auto Backup Settings' internal command to make periodic automatic backups.

Ah, one more thing that could also explain what happened: if WorkShelf crashes instead of exiting normally before it has a chance to save changes to the Windows Registry, those changes will be lost.

For performance reasons, changes you make to docks and the Shelf (adding, removing, changing items) are normally not saved immediately, but rather saved only when the application has been idle for a short period of time.

Still, in a normal Windows shutdown WorkShelf exits gracefully: it knows the system is being shut down and immediately saves any pending changes. The only way that wouldn't happen is if, instead of exiting normally, it crashes instead - or if you hard reset the machine instead of shutting it down normally.
