I've been using NextStart for years, and haven't really had any program incompatibilities before.

However, I'm currently using an editing program that has a large Direct X window used as the viewport. Whenever NextStart is running, this program gets confused and "overdraws" the directX window on top of other programs.

The problem goes away if I shut down NextStart. Anybody else seen this or know which element of NextStart might be the problem?

This is NextStart v4.2 running under Win XP.

Thanks..

It's probably NextSTART's task snapshot feature interfering with the DirectX window: right click on the offending task button and select 'Add to Snapshot Exclusion List', then let me know if that solved the problem.

What is the name of the editing program, by the way?

Thanks for the reply, I'll give that a go.

Unfortunately, the program is a proprietary in-house tool. Will that action you mention remove the task from the taskbar, or just stop taking the snapshots that are used to show the state of the program when you hover the mouse over it?

It will display an icon instead of the window snapshot, but it won't stop the program from appearing in the taskbar.

Yay! Looks like that fixed it.

I added the app to the snapshot exclusion list by window title, and it behaves properly now, thanks!

You mentioned that I should be able to do this by right-clicking on the task button and selecting "add to snapshot exclusion" but when I right-click any of my task buttons, it minimizes the program.

Guess you've been using Winstep/Winstep Xtreme for some time now... that's the old default. The new default displays the task menu when you right click on the task button - all that is configurable, by the way: just open the Global tab of NextSTART Preferences and click on the Mouse Settings button to understand what I mean.
