Hi everyone,

I've been noticing for quite a while that every time the computer wakes after sleep, the auto-hide animation (usually using 'slide') breaks, so that the dock just appears.

Not sure if that's a bug?

using the latest version on Windows 11.

Anybody experienced it or have a solution / workaround?

Thanks

If it's a bug, it's a bug in Windows 11 (just one more to add to the list).

So, what you mean is that after coming back from sleep the animation of the dock popping up **and** hiding is pretty much instantaneous from then on?

What happens if you manually hide the dock by double clicking the Nexus control icon?

P.S. There is definitely something weird with timers under Windows 11 when coming back from sleep, here Wanda (the swimming fish desktop module in Winstep Xtreme) also stops swimming when coming back from sleep. Trying to figure that one out too.

Well, turns out the Wanda thingy was actually a bug in the Winstep application (which I just fixed).

Still waiting to hear from you regarding the auto hide and pop up animations. :D

Hey sorry for not being too clear before.

The auto-hide itself works fine, it's the animation of the auto-hide that does not work after sleep.
So for example if a slide animation is chosen, the dock will appear/hide in an instant rather than sliding into the screen.
Also the 'Animation speed' does not change anything once it happens.

Changing the delay before automatically hiding the dock does however still works.

If I exit Nexus and run it again, animations come back to life.

Ok, thanks for the further details, I will try to reproduce it here and will let you know (I don't use auto-hide for my docks).

I have a feeling it is the same type of issue that was preventing Wanda from swimming on the desktop.

Thank you!

An interesting revelation when I tried to find what Wanda is - when 'Hide Windows taskbar' is checked, this issue doesn't occur. Dock animations works well before and after sleep.

Edit: Well it did occur eventually, but not after the first couple of sleeps.
I vaguely remember it did not occur before, perhaps before the last update, but cannot confirm that.

Wait, is the animation stopping to work a *random* issue (i.e. it cannot be reproduced 100% of the time after the PC returns from sleep) ?

It does happen every time the computer falls asleep.

I believe while testing Wanda and manually pressing sleep, I've woke the computer so quickly that it didn't actually went into sleep. I was celebrating too quickly :shock:

Hi @winstep,

Do you think it's solvable by the next release?

Thanks!

Please try something for me:

Add an internal command to the dock called 'Power Saving Mode' (right click -> insert new dock item -> system -> Power Saving Mode). The leaf in the button should be gray.

When the computer returns from sleep, is the leaf red or green instead of gray?

The leaf was initially red.
I've pressed it to make it grey.

I'll test it for a day and report back.

So... Initially when I've added the 'Power Saving Mode', the leaf was green. The auto hide animation did not work as well.

When I restart Nexus to have the animations work again, the leaf becomes grey.
After the computer goes to sleep and wakes up, leaf is red again, and the animations does not work.

Does that make any sense?

Also, when I click to change the 'Power Saving Mode' status:
Red = Animations don't work
Green = Animations don't work
Grey = Animations work

That is by design. There are two power saving modes, green and red, red being the highest. The higher the mode, the slower and the less things work to save power (for instance, in a laptop not connected to an AC outlet).

Open Preferences, go to the Advanced tab and click on 'Power Saving Settings'. Make sure turn on automatically is set to "Never" and that both 'Activate' options are disabled. This should solve your problem.

Tested this since you've posted and that solves the issue (other than once that it did change to red for some reason).

Will this effect the power usage substantially (will drain battery faster on laptop)?

Thank you!
