Hello Jorge:
I’m using Nexus Ultimate version 26.6. This morning I updated to the latest beta version, and since the update the app keeps crashing. My system is running Windows 11 Enterprise 25H2. Has anyone else seen this issue or found a fix? Any guidance would be appreciated.
Please see the attached crash report.

Hi!

Sorry you are experiencing crashes. :(

Unfortunately all that crash report tells me was that there was an access violation in OLEAUT32.DLL, but it does not tell me why.

Unless I can reproduce the issue here - and so far I have been unable to - I will need your help to try and figure out what might be causing this on your system.

First thing I need you to do is a backup of your current settings so you can quickly get back to how things were before any testing we might have to do.

Second, what version were you running before installing the latest beta?

Third, I am going to need a LOT MORE detail about the crashes. Are they random or can you reproduce them? Can you find a trigger? Do they always happen roughly after the same amount of time has passed? Does the application even start? Does the application simply exit silently or do you get the Exception Error dialog?

That is just the beginning info I need from you. Then I need you to look at the history file for stuff that was changed recently (Preferences -> About tab-> click the version number at the top right -> View Change Log), see if you use any of that stuff.

Try removing or disabling some settings or features to see if that makes the crash go away (this is why having a backup is really important, so you can go back to regular "business" once we figure out the culprit). For instance, removing any weather module you might have on your dock or shelf (and you will need to do this for ALL instances of the module, etc...)

Also, do you run any PWAs (web applications?) ?

Do you show tray icons on your dock(s) or shelve(s). If so, do the crashes go away if you disable the tray icons?

Likewise for running applications, etc...

Basically it's a trial and error thing at this point to see if we can get a clue that points us to the culprit.

Also, please send a copy of your Nexus Ultimate backup file to the Winstep support email address, to see if there is anything on your setup that is causing the issue and that I can reproduce here.

FYI: I normally run WorkShelf/Winstep Xtreme 24/7 here, but I have also been running Nexus Ultimate at the same time for the past few hours and did not experience any crashes or issues.

Might be an issue specific to your system OR configuration. So far haven't received any other reports of problems, but given how few users choose to run betas lately, that doesn't say much either.

Waiting for your detailed feedback.
