Hi there, first time posting. Are there alternate download choices such as torrents etc? The direct download link on the website barely manages 100kb per sec.

Many thanks

The server does not appear to be overloaded. Current outbound traffic is well below the available capacity, and I am not seeing any server-side bandwidth saturation.

Slow download speeds are therefore more likely to be caused by a temporary routing or peering issue between your ISP and the datacenter. We do not currently offer alternative download mirrors, but speeds will usually return to normal once the affected route is restored or traffic is redirected.

Please let me know your country and ISP, and I can check whether there is a known routing issue affecting your region.

Thanks for the speedy reply Jorge,
I'm still experiencing the slow download, the download speed eventually reaches 0kb/s and times out.

I am in the UK, my ISP is Vodafone.

I ran a basic speed test, then rebooted my router and laptop before testing again, both results on my end are very similar, here's the second test data;

Tested At:: https://TestMy.net
Measurement Summary (Download):: Min 49.18 Mbps | Middle Avg 69.98 Mbps | Max 76.39 Mbps | 28% Variance
Test Time:: 2026-07-10 19:09:49 Local Time
Client Location:: Sudbury, SFK GB https://testmy.net/city/sudbury_sfk
Target:: London, GB https://testmy.net/multithread
:::.. Internet Speed Test Result Details ..:::
Download Connection Speed:: 69505.3 kbps or 69.5 Mbps
Download Speed Test Size:: 86.6 MB or 88697 kB or 90825891.84 bytes
Download Binary File Transfer Speed:: 8688 kB/s or 8.7 MB/s
Upload Connection Speed:: 17706 kbps or 17.7 Mbps

Thanks for the additional information.

Those results confirm that your Internet connection itself is performing normally. However, a speed test to a London server uses a different network route from the one used to reach our download server, so it would not necessarily reveal a routing or peering problem affecting that particular connection.

The fact that the download gradually falls to 0 KB/s and eventually times out is also consistent with an unstable route rather than a lack of available bandwidth on the server.

As a quick test, could you try downloading the file through a different connection, such as a mobile hotspot, or temporarily through a VPN? If it downloads normally that way, it would strongly indicate that the problem is specific to the route being used by Vodafone.

As an additional test, open Command Prompt and run the following command while the download is slow:

tracert www.winstep.net

Once it has completed, please copy and paste the full results into your reply.

Beginning to wonder whether some "rogue nation" has cut another undersea cable. :)

Let's hope there's no cable cutting going on! :)
Downloading via a VPN hit about 67.6 Mbps or roughly 8.5 MB/s from a server in Houston which is not shabby at all. The trace-route was a different story though.
The good news is I got my installer via the VPN. I hope you're able to get to the bottom of whatever's occurring. Much appreciate your time.

Thanks for running those tests, and I’m glad you were able to download the installer through the VPN.

The traceroute does reach our server successfully in around 111–114 ms, which is normal for a connection from the UK to our datacenter in Florida. The hops showing timeouts are not necessarily faults, since the trace continues beyond them and ultimately reaches the server; some routers simply do not respond to traceroute requests.

The VPN result is the most useful clue. Reaching approximately 8.5 MB/s through a Houston VPN server confirms that the download server itself has plenty of available capacity. This appears to be a route-specific issue affecting the normal path between Vodafone and the datacenter, possibly involving congestion or packet loss that traceroute alone does not reveal.

Unfortunately, that part of the route is outside my direct control, but these issues are normally temporary and should clear once the affected network route is adjusted.

Thanks again for taking the time to test this and send the results.
