Can you please send a backup of your current settings to the Winstep support address?

Wow!

No news on what might be causing the crash yet, but... I have to say I've never seen a configuration like yours.

Restoring settings took an unusually long time, and I could see why afterwards: you have 48 docks and sub-docks defined, nearly all of them in-Shelf sub-docks. From those only 9 are regular docks (even though three of them are disabled).

That's good, since this enables you to see the new smooth scrolling feature I added in v16.12 to the Docks & Shelves tab in Preferences... but I digress... :P

Your configuration really taxes WorkShelf (the backup file alone is 220 KB in size) but is also a fine example on how to make good use of Winstep applications...

Anyway, the problem is that a lot of stuff that exists there (themes, bitmaps, icons, etc...) does not exist here, and it might just be one of those missing things that is responsible for the crashes you have been experiencing lately. I'll let your configuration run for a while to see if I come up with something anyway... so far, nothing, no apparent memory leaks or anything.

How often would you say you get a crash?

You might want to read THIS PAGE on Steam KB. Even though its for games, it does point out that "the most common cause of this error is a background application interfering with the game".

i could send you my icons and my winstep folder with skins if it would help
it happened several times, today few time in short period, but not once since i reported the bug

i also noticed mail checker behaving strangely, when i right click to edit email checker settings and change something, next time i do the same it doesn't show the changes, and sometimes it respects the change (check email settings interval) sometimes not

when i go to trough the module settings in winstep properties changes show, but it messes up the module icon

some time ago there was also a bug with weather module where it would randomly become opaque without mouseover, that's why i use it in a transparent dock

third 'bug' which is more unexpected behaviour, is that the dock directly under the shelf sometimes overlaps the shelf when the shelf is activated, but if i change its z order then its subdock goes under the docks below

forth is that sometimes shelf subdock blink and disappear (flicker in and out) when clicked on

i wrote before about weather module but didn't report it because i figured it was because of me using the resources heavily

would winstep work better if i put all the shortcuts and icons in one folder somewhere on the disk? saw someone suggest that in the forum

it didnt happen when i was playing anything, had few programs running, skype, pidgin, yahoo im, avast, flux, free alarm clock, lightshot, notepad++, firefox/chrome, gom player, uncap, kvirc, and some lenovo applications
out of which only kvirc i started using recently

edit, i had free download manager open for a bit which i dont use often

don't think any of them should interfere with winstep and i have enough free ram. didn't catch what the processor usage like

edit 2 forgot to include utorrent

Confirmed. Any changes made to the Email Checker settings panel when the panel is invoked via the right-click context menu are discarded. Only happens with the Email Checker module. Fixed it here already, thanks for pointing it out.

What do you mean by this? I did make some changes in that area, so icon customizations, etc, made in the modules tab in Preferences are immediately reflected in the module's settings dialog.

Could you please post a screenshot so I understand better what is happening there?

I'll look into the other issues in a little while.

No. Before, when you scrolled the dock list in the Docks & Shelves tab, there really was no scrolling per se. The docks simply moved into their new slots.

I found this a bit confusing since it did not give you any visual feedback and it was getting on my nerves too. So now when you use the scroll bar (or the mouse wheel) on this tab, you should notice that the dock list smoothly scrolls up and down.

noticed something else recently, not sure how long has been happening, anytime i click/right click on dock/shelf/module, every of them flicker (can't really scrnshot that, id have to use some screen recording and i dont' have any software for that, could do a screen share on skype but not sure if it refreshes quick enough to be visible though)

Eh? Your dock backgrounds are all 100% transparent, though?

yes all standalone dock are transparent, but icons and modules flicker
checked now, not all docks flicker, shelf doesn't and docks #3 ( upper right)and #6 (right under shelf) dont flicker, not sure about dock #4 (the one with weather module)

rest of the docks icons and all modules (clock, net/ram/CPU metters and Email) flicker
