Is there a way to disable/prevent/workaround automatic resolution change when HDMI connected TV shuts off? (Windows 7, connected in extend mode)

it keeps messing with winstep dock order (among other things), and the damn hotel TV has a mind on its own (and limited setup options :/).
its driving me crazy and my google fu has failed me.

I know its kinda off-topic, but main reason it bugs me is that it messes with winstep

Alas, I don't know, sorry.

But what exactly is happening there?

well, its a hotel tv so most of its settings are unlocked. it has some weird/inconsistent power savings thing going on (or im getting remote interference from another room) where it shuts off randomly. very time it turns off/on/or i change input (which i have to every time i turn it on), hdmi refreshes main screen (laptop monitor) resolution too

which, besides being irritating in itself, makes winstep rearrange the docks, which then every now and then makes 'prevent maximized windows from overlapping' stop working, and i have to restart winstep

and for all i know it could be behind that 2 crashes i had, and also behind animations stalling

I used to have a similar issue with my system. I use the same monitor for my computer and PS3. When I would switch between from the PS3 to the PC, Windoze would always reset the resolution to the default and move everything around on my screen. I edited my registry to set the default to be what my monitor's actual resolution is. No more problem.

Sorry, I'm not sure how that happened--I didn't click any links on the page I was trying to send. Although the article above is one of the links available to click. What I was trying for was:
