Post subject:  Can'ad add item to dock by dragging desktop shortcut and fol
Hi all, I am new to Nexus Ultimate. It is an awesome application for me but somehow there is a problem bothering me.

I can't add some desktop shortcut or folder to dock. When they are dragged into to dock, only an icon with "question mark" will be shown. I am not sure what's the problem, can anyone help? It will be troule if I need to add every PC application to dock by right click and "insert new dock item", then copy and paste the path of application.... Thanks in advance!

P.S. You can see an "?" icon on the dock as below capture

Sure, I have uploaded 3 images. 2 of them are properties of items. One of them showing the icon displayed for program and drive. Besides, i would like to mention that, those icon are not usable when I click on them. Thanks!

What version of Nexus Ultimate are you running? I assume the latest (v17.12) right?

First item, '\' is NOT a valid folder path. Replace it with 'C:\' or whatever.

Second item, the dock *automatically* resolves shortcuts - so it points to the target instead of the shortcut itself - when you drop them into the dock, so the only reason that item is pointing to a shortcut .lnk file instead of directly to the target is because either the shortcut is invalid or could not be resolved properly.

Also, the fact that not even the shortcut runs when you click on the AEMON~1 dock item probably also means that not even Windows can run it. What happens when you double click on the actual shortcut in the desktop?

I am using 17.12. Yes I assume that the shortcut will be resolved automatically but it didnt for some application. All actual shortcuts work properly when clicking on it.

Can you please post a screenshot of the actual AEMON~1 shortcut *on your desktop*?

Also, you seem to be in Hong Kong, so are you running a Chinese or an English version of Windows?

Posted below.

I am using Chinese version windows, not sure if this affect. Actually some shortcut can be dragged properly to the dock while some cannot. Besides, it is not okay to drag a drive (e.g. C drive) to dock directly.

Now i am using a stupid method: Create a shelf and add desktop tab. Inside the desktop tab, all icon shows properly. Then I will pull those icons to dock and all of them can work properly... This is the only I found so far and a bit stupid for long run.

I would say yes, this has an effect, and probably the reason why you are experiencing those issues. Winstep is an ANSI application, not Unicode, and unfortunately does not support Unicode directly.

If you go to

Windows Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Administrative tab

What is 'Language for non-Unicode programs' set to?

It is Chinese now. Should I change it to English?

No, unless you want to stop being able to use Chinese characters inside the application.

One thing you mentioned got me thinking though:

Just to confirm: if you drag the AEMON~1 shortcut from the Desktop tab in the Shelf to the dock it already works properly?!

Also, can you try to figure out what those shortcuts that don't work might have in common? It has to be something that the working shortcuts don't. A path/folder name in Chinese, perhaps?

No. Here are three situation:
1) Directly drag the shortcut to dock --> not ok
2) Drag the shortcut to shelf --> not ok
3) Create a desktop tab in shelf --> icon available in shelf --> drag the icon in tab to dock --> ok and useable

I tried to see if there is anything in common but fail.
1) Most of them do not contain Chinese in path and filename
2) Some of them are in program file while some of them are in program file (x86)

Besides, i tried to drag a drive into dock from my computer and it fails too. Seems not related to the name or path?

17.12. I also tried to uninstall the ultimate version and install free version. Same thing happened.

Need some kind of clue to try and guess what might be going on. Seems related to drag & drop.

Could you please right click on the AEMON~1 shortcut, select Properties and post a screenshot of the contents of the Shortcut tab in the dialog that pops up?
