Guys!

In hopes of getting this Beta this week-end, I setup Nexus on my real HTPC and started configuring things for real BUT made a very sad discovery...

I can't make the dock appear on full screen applications!
When PowerDVD 17 (TV mode) or KODI 17.6 are running (full screen) the dock won't appear when trying to activate with shortcut key!!!!! Same behavior FIFA 18...
I'm guessing it never activates over full screen apps... I have to do some reading on this...

Am I missing something obvious?

No, that's by design.

You don't want the dock to accidentally activate just as you move your mouse to deal the final blow on the Dark Souls boss you've been trying to beat for the past 6 hours.

But yeah, this is indeed a problem for usages like yours. Hmmm...

Yeah... I thought it could be by design...
This setting could be an option though.
I guess I could make my own resident thing that could "show the desktop" on one hotkey then send another hotkey for the dock...

Thanks for your fast replies..
Been forcing the check for update button every hour for the last 3 days!!!!

Not sure a global option would be the answer - one minute you would be elated when watching movies and the next you would be throwing the table at the TV when the dock accidentally activated while playing a game.

Something that would work better would be an exceptions list - but that would be YAEL (Yet Another Exclusion List) on top of those that exist already. Sigh.

Don't. I'll post a message here when the beta is released. :)

Well, ended up adding a Full Screen Application Exclusion List.

This, of course, delayed the beta even further.

Should I have kept my mouth shut???

Question for you about ultimate; I remember you writing about pressing ESC to exit a sub-dock...
Would simply use the up arrow also work?

I can manage with a single horizontal row dock but if full navigation with only arrows and enter would be possible... Ultimate, with vertical sub docks, could be an interesting move!

No, you shouldn't. If you can't activate a dock when the Media Player application is running full screen the whole keyboard navigation thing would be kind of a mute point.

Besides the ENTER key (which executes items) you can also use the arrow keys to open sub-docks, so closing them with arrow keys also makes sense.

Basically this is how it works: imagine you have a dock at the bottom of the screen, you select a sub-dock icon using either the left or right arrows, press the arrow up key and the sub-dock opens. If you now press the arrow down key, the sub-dock closes.

Anyway, things are never as simple as they look: as I was implementing this, I remembered that sub-docks can be made to open perpendicular to parent, etc... testing this configuration obviously opened another can of worms, which I am now trying to get right.

This might look at first sight as something simple, easy and quick to implement, but the code is so complex and there are so many possible interactions that it ends up being anything BUT simple.

Also, I don't like how the icons 'jump' when magnifying and selection changes via keyboard - I'll probably try to tackle this as well, i.e.; make it a lot smoother!

I like how you're addressing it built in.

FWIW this is what I do. In AutoHotKey when I press my trigger, ctrl + alt + shift + 9 it activates windows explorer, then activates Nexus dock. This way I am able to launch the dock while in full screen applications.

Clever.

Once the beta is released you won't need to activate Explorer first, you just add your full screen application to the exclusion list and activate the dock directly.

One question though: what was the problem with using the ESC key to close sub-docks? I was thinking that ESC could also be used to manually hide the parent dock, for instance.

No problem with esc on my end, that key makes sense to me setup that way.

Ended up making ESC simply unmagnify the dock (i.e.; no icon selected). Perhaps then pressing ESC a second time to auto-hide.

Anyway, magnification now smoothly switches from icon to icon as you press the arrow keys. Looking good so far. :)

I don't have Ultimate so I can't try it... The reason I asked about the ESC key is because I think navigation should work by simply using the four arrow keys (especially is sub dock is perpendicular) and then ENTER to launch so only five keys are needed...

Again week-end is here! Any chance we can see your good work?

Make sure 'Notify me of beta (test) versions' is enabled on the Advanced tab of Preferences and then click the 'Check for Updates' button.

Just released the beta, barely a minute ago. :)

Thanks. Did you try the full screen exclusion list too?
