Post subject: | Auto Hide Setting |
Hey there, I've been testing stuff throught the settings of the auto hide dock function. However, I can't get it to work that the Dock is not hiding on the desktop. Or am I enabling the wrong settings for that? (at the last setting there is no hide animation anymore ) Here's a short video of the testings: Does anyone know how to get the hide animations and have the dock visible on the desktop? |

The last setting, 'Auto-Hide for maximized applications when always on top' only has an effect, as the description says, when the dock is set to always on top (Position tab -> Always Above Other Windows). This is for people who normally want their docks on screen at all times (so auto-hide is also disabled) except when they maximize an application, in which case the dock should auto-hide. |

Isn't it possible to auto hide the dock excluding on the desktop? |

Oh, like that my dock is visible on the desktop (not auto hiding) But if a window is maximised the dock auto hides with the selected animation. |

Ah, ok. First, download and install the beta of v18.8 (Preferences -> Advanced -> Notify me of Beta (test) versions -> Check for Updates), it fixes an issue with this feature: 1. Disable Auto-Hide. 2. Enable 'Auto-Hide for maximized applications when always on top' 3. Set the dock to 'Always Above other windows' (Position tab) Presto! |

Hello, I also have a problem with Auto Hide. If I have windows in full screen, you should not be able to fade in the dock. I am very sorry that my english is so bad The dock should only appear when I am on the desktop and go with the mouse up to the dock. If my browser is open, the dock should not appear. I have tried it with different settings but it does not work. I also have the latest version installed. I once made a video of the problem. There you can also see my settings: I hope you can help me. Greetings from Germany. |

My ears....! Thanks for the video. Those settings are NOT intended for the dock NOT to pop up, but for it to *hide* automatically and get out of the way when you maximize a window. You can still - as you should - make the dock pop up by bumping the screen edge. Don't want the dock to pop up, don't bump the screen edge. The ONLY instance where the dock will deliberately not appear when you bump the screen edge is when you are running a FULL SCREEN application (such as a game). |

I just want the dock to be behind the windows. Here's the setting: Always under the other windows: Attachment: But the dock is still over the other windows: Attachment:

Even a 'Always on bottom' dock will temporarily appear above other windows when activated via an edge bump or a hot key. This is by design. If any other users reading this don't agree with this behavior, now would be a good time to speak. |

But that was not always the case? Because before the update that worked for me. On the desktop, I could activate the dock with the mouse pointer. But if a window obscured the desktop, you could not activate the dock. But I had not done an update for a long time. That's why I can not say which version that was. |

Although, I struggle to understand why anybody would want to set anything in top or bottom z-order with Windows and esp. nowadays. On top, yeah, maybe - things like taskbar, or a dock or shelf perhaps, on a large screen where there is enough space. |

For explanation. On the last screenshot of me you can see the web browser. If I want to change the tab (or open a new one), I always reach the top of the screen with my mouse. And every time the dock opens. It's frustrating. I just want the dock not to open when a window is maximized (for example the Browser). And when I'm on the desktop, I want the dock to open when I move the mouse to the top of the screen. |
