Good morning. Does anyone know why Nexus freezes every moment?

Sample video here

PD: Any link I add freezes, sometimes even without doing anything.

Thank you very much.

Can be any number of things:

- Something you are referencing (item itself, launch sound, icon) is in a external network drive (network discovery can take a long time, thus blocking the application)

- The item you are referencing is stored on a hard disk that goes to sleep when not in use for some time (the hard disk needs time to spin back up and until it does the application blocks)

- Hardware error - the hard drive holding the item is failing and begins retrying requests over and over again until it succeeds.

To diagnose make a backup of your settings and remove shortcuts from the dock until you figure out which one is causing the problem. Once you do that, you still have to figure out why.

Needless to say: if you manage to figure what was causing the freezes, please post here.

In unrelated But never the less repeatable I have a delayed stack launching issue.
The GStack in question on the bar/Nexus only contains 3 shortcuts to launch browsers.
On a cold restart/start it often takes 10/15 clicks to launch this GStack.

I hope you realize why I put it here rather than a fresh topic, if not please split.
@Jorge did u see post on weather module?

10/15 clicks or 10/15 *seconds* ?

Anyway, the period immediately after a reboot is an extremely busy period - event though the desktop on a Windows 10 system might already be visible (Windows 10 deliberately delays the start up of 3rd party applications to make itself appear to boot faster), Windows is still very busy loading everything else.

This is particularly noticeable if you have an hard disk instead of a SSD.

When you open a Grid Stack for the first time, it needs to retrieve the icons for the items in it from the hard disk. To increase performance, it will then store these in an internal memory cache, but there is no escaping that very first time - and if the system is still booting, this operation will be competing with everything else.

If any of those icon images are stored in a non-local drive, then it's even worse: the Winstep application can't get to the icon until all network related sub-systems have already started, etc... The Winstep application might even freeze for a while as the operation blocks.

Anyway, in your case, what exactly happens when you click on the Grid Stack right after a reboot? Does the Winstep application freeze for a few seconds?

Thank you very much for answering. I've been doing tests.

At the moment it only happens when I add or remove a link (although not always). It doesn't matter where: C, D, external network or removable media. It always happens.

I haven't been able to fix it yet, but I'm still investigating.

Thank you!

Can you post a video of you actually adding the link and the subsequent freeze?

Devil is always in the details.

Something else, and this much more important: does the freeze also occur if you right click on ANY item, select Dock Entry Properties and then immediately click OK in the Item Properties dialog? If so, then the culprit is an item that is *already* in the dock, as the dock will refresh all icon images when you edit, add or remove an item from it.

Directly on boot up(fast boot = on)
As mentioned above -:- 10/15 clicks Icon enlarges and sound is played, each time. But no G/S is shown. G/Stack only has Icons to "Firefox/Chrome/Edge"Browsers.

I am using chrome usualy when it does launch I get normal window(tabsX12)plus a fresh blank Chrome browser.

On warm up it(g/s) performs normal. Hard to get a video off it, but I am trying.

Have you tried already removing those shortcuts from the Grid Stack one by one to see if one of them is causing the delay? Especially the Edge shortcut, as Edge is a UWP app.

Finally, on-camera I did not manage to capture audio, but each bounce of the icon was is a click on the shortcut. Also this is after having removed Edge's Icon and Long Long after startup, at startup it is even worse, when it happens, and less hit and miss with more miss.

I'm serious. Are you sure there is nothing wrong with that mouse? Because judging by the video it seems to me like it's double clicking when single clicking - a sure sign the mouse button switches are already going bad.

...and if you double click a grid stack instead of single clicking, it starts to open but then closes immediately - thus giving the impression that nothing is happening when you click on it.

Ile humour you a while. I have two of the mice ile change over the mouse and see what happens. The main thing I note so far from the change: I have had to down the dpi of the other mouse it was set for navigating in a bios where the mouse is really slow to move.

But I must say that I am aware of no 'Double clicking' these mice have memory and extra buttons, programmable. Designed for gaming where high usage is anticipated.
