Thia is really getting on my nerves. If I forget to turn Avast off before updating Winstep, it prevents the update from installing. I have to turn off Avast to install any Winstep updates. After all these years, I still get the attached message-days after I've turned Avast back on after an update!

Or, if I don't turn off Avast, it sends the info to their system and it takes hours before it will clear the update and allow it to install.

You would think that after years of this, Winstep would be whitelisted so this would no longer occur.

Jorge, is there anything you can do by contacting Avast to stop this idiocy?

Alas, there are tons of different AV vendors out there. If I had to deal with each one of them every time I want to release an update, that's what I would spend all my time doing.

Huh?!! :? Why would you have to contact them each time? I thought that since you're a reputable company that's been around for eons, it would be a one and done deal.

Winstep is the only program this happens to that I can remember. Is there something so potentially dangerous about this type of file why it isn't whitelisted?

You should ask THEM that question, no? :)

I'll look into it. Don't know if they'll pay any attention to me since I'm not the developer and on top of that, I use the free version.

I assume that if the developer of a program-especially one as highly respected as yours contacts them, it will carry a thousand times more weight than if little ol' me does. :)

Okay, I just sent Avast a message about this issue. Lets see if they fix the problem.

Since it's only been a few days since I sent the message to Avast, I know there is no way the issue would be fixed.

Just to see what would happen, I didn't turn off Avast. This time I expanded 'More details'. Look at the attached pic. I think I found the reason why it won't whitelist the update files.

I guess I was right. You will have to contact Avast to remedy the problem.

BTW, I clicked on 'I trust this file' but it didn't help. I will either have to wait or turn off Avast to install the update.

Hmmmmmm. Jorge, did you do contact Avast or do something different with the update file?

The reason I'm asking is because this time when I installed the new update you just released, it didn't block it. It installed flawlessly without any message.

It appears Avast is operating differently now concerning Winstep updates.

Some hours ago I installed the silent update provided in another thread. When I did it, Avast scanned the file, and let it through.

Jorge, you didn't reply to my last post. Did you change something to make the publisher of the file known? I'm wondering if it was on your end, or the message I sent was the reason it appears they've remedied the problem with them blocking your updates.
