This popup has started happening just today.

I have scanned for malware, otherwise nothing has changed as far as I know.

My license is good until 2020. v19.2 (no updates available when I checked)

Apart from that popup which has started appearing every hour or maybe more (I haven`t actually timed them) everything appears to be working as normal.

*Something* changed the NextSTART executable, Juju, no doubt about that, which is what is triggering that message. I would be on the look out for that.

In the mean time, to solve the issue:

1. Download the full version of Winstep Xtreme from the Winstep web site.

2. Exit Winstep Xtreme.

3. Go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\

4. At this point you can (I would) upload the nextstart.exe file you find there to VirusTotal, to make sure it hasn't been injected with any malware.

5. Delete nextstart.exe

6. Re-install Winstep Xtreme *on top* of your current installation (i.e.; do NOT uninstall anything first). All your settings, docks, etc, will be preserved.

Thanks for the reply.

I will do all that immediately then wait and see what happens.

VirusTotal came back 100% clean (0/72)

Alright, that's good news at least, even though the executable was changed.

Check your Windows event viewer for any hardware errors too. Do you have a hard disk drive or an SSD?

[All SSDs here but no access to the event viewer to check - otherwise I would have done that]

What I HAD done earlier today was restore a partition image - I suppose that may have had something to do with it...

although it`s never happened before and I`ve restored so many images over the years with no side effects with regard to NextStart.

The timing of that restore and the warnings didn`t coincide though, making it appear unrelated.

It`s been a few hours now since I reinstalled {NextStart} and that message hasn`t appeared since, so I will pray that it was a one off oddity.

It was weird because I wasn`t even doing anything at the time they appeared, only Firefox was open and left unused for a while each time it happened.

Let`s hope I haven`t jinxed it by saying it`s all OK :)
