I am getting notification every day, that there is a new update, Feb 28th but it is the last one, I download, install, and have to repeat the following day, twice today As no one else has reported a problem guess its something wrong in my setup, but the last few dozen upgrades over the years have gone smoothly , never any trouble, Is it me? |

Don't feel bad, I renewed my subscription the end of February and I get a notice everyday to renew subscription. |

My reply to your issue is on the other thread you opened. divingbrit wrote: I am getting notification every day, that there is a new update, Feb 28th but it is the last one, I download, install, and have to repeat the following day, twice today As no one else has reported a problem guess its something wrong in my setup, but the last few dozen upgrades over the years have gone smoothly , never any trouble, If you open WorkShelf Preferences and click on the version number at the top right corner of the About tab, what is the full version number listed for WorkShelf.exe? Also, what version number is the updating manager giving you (you can manually check for updates using the button also in the About tab)? |

After the update has been downloaded and when setup runs, is it requesting elevation (UAC prompt)? If not, you probably changed something in your system that is causing setup not to run with admin privileges, which it turn makes Windows trick setup to store the data elsewhere (the virtual store). Immediately after installation of the new version, when Xtreme is launched again, check out the version number again. Is it 19.2 or 18.12? |

Ok, you do realize that this is system specific, right? i.e.; it has nothing to do with the Winstep application itself. I have had something like this reported to me before, but I can't remember what the cause was (if we ever got to know it). It's like the system is making a 'system restore' after a reboot. |

have you tried installing/updating any other software? |

I made the point at the beginning, that it was not this software that had a problem but 'it must be me' I will later today, uninstall winstep , and then reinstall with the updated version Report back later |

By that I didn't mean that I wouldn't help you, just that I'm as much in the dark as you are. If you don't figure out what is causing this, it will probably happen again. I would like to know too. What about Seeker's question? |

Seekers suggestion, is fine, if this problem had been spotted by me as soon as it had happened, but I guess my problem would start anytime after I had installed 18.12, which was sometime ago, last year? Since then many of my programs have been installed/updated/uninstalled. Finding the right one is beyond me So, I completely uninstalled winstep extreme, plus any settings, rebooted, downloaded the latest version, installed, activated my key, rebooted the machine, and it still shows 19.2 Does this show what caused the problem, NO Does it help anyone in the same situation NO Does it solve my problem, Maybe I will know when the next update is published, because I will install and see if it remains, or this time reverts to 19.2 Now just have to work out how to get winstep configured as it was (that may just take a few days, weeks etc ) |

Yes I did a backup, but this is one time, I thought I would completely start a fresh, so all previous downloads, configs, backups were deleted over kill? probably, but something somewhere was wrong, so it was back to the beginning for me, and sometimes its worther relooking at what you have, with a fresh clean palette, its been a number of years that I have been with winstep, and this is only the second time I have begun building afresh |

Starting afresh is a good thing to do at times, it breaks all chains tying you to the past and opens your eyes to new ways of doing things. Like a Phoenix, you are reborn from the ashes. Boy, did I wake up in a good mood! lol Pity that once again we will never know what was causing this. |
