I'm running WS 15.9 on Windows 7.

I have a tab on a shelf with text files on it. They should open in Notepad. Just recently they stopped opening when I click on them or right click on the files and use Open or Open With.
I can use Open With and open them in Word Pad.
I tried Restore File Associations but no luck there.

Any suggestions?

In regular File Explorer, do those same files open in Notepad or anything else?

They open in Notepad just fine from Explorer. If I drag the text folder to the shelf and open that, it opens a regular explorer window and I can open them fine from there as well.
It's only individual text files on the shelf that don't open now.

Is that version number correct? v15.9 was released 4 years ago, makes it a lot harder to troubleshoot (although I don't think this is related to Winstep software specifically, but possibly a 32 bit vs 64 bit issue).

The version number is correct. I haven't upgraded since then.

Why would it have just started?

Perhaps some botched Windows update?

This is not a Winstep issue at all, but an OS one: all the Winstep application does when you tell it to run a file or open a program is tell Windows via ShellExecuteEx: here, take the file at this location and with this filename, and open/run it.

The OS does the actual work of running the application/finding the proper application to open a known file extension with.

I take it from your description that nothing happens when you click on the text file in the Shelf? Not even an error message?

What happens if you drag the text file from the Shelf to the dock and try to open it from there?

Finally, not saying it would solve the problem, but you really should think about upgrading to the latest v19.2 release. In 4 years there has been a TRUCKLOAD (literally eheh) of new features... and you know you don't have to pay full price ever again either, right?
