At first, everything worked perfectly.

Hmmmm... Ok, go to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\

Do you see WsMMPlay.exe in that folder?

Open Task Manager in the Details tab. Is it running?

If not, does it run when you click the 'Test Voice' button (it should run and then stay visible on the Details tab of Task Manager for about 60 seconds)?

Once you've tried this, if running kill the WsMMPlay.exe process in the Details tab of Task Manager (right click, End Task) and rename WsMMPlay.exe to WsMMPlay.exe.bak. Now click the 'Test Voice' button again. Is the voice heard now?

Hey Ric! Glad to know everything is ok with you. :)

P.S. Linux, eh? Traitor! lol

I'm not sure, but it might help him diagnose the problem if the questions he asked were answered:

We just try different options. Everything is good :) I have no idea why it could stop working.

Are you saying that it's working now?

So, how about answering my questions then? One by one will be fine. :P

Should I uninstall and tell it to remove settings? It's the only other thing I can think of barring getting a Mac.

No need to uninstall, IMO. You can make a backup of your settings FIRST and then reset to factory settings to see what happens (Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Troubleshooting Options)

Are Gregory2001 and Redisko the same people? I'm so confused by who's answering (and not answering) what questions.

No you're not. You never answered the following questions, as DesertDwarf also pointed out (thanks, Ric):

Quote:
1. Do you see WsMMPlay.exe in that folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\)?

2. Open Task Manager in the Details tab. Is it running?

3. If not, does it run when you click the 'Test Voice' button (it should run and then stay visible on the Details tab of Task Manager for about 60 seconds)?

Hey Ric! Glad to know everything is ok with you. :)

P.S. Linux, eh? Traitor! lol

LOL! Well, I value security and my privacy above all else, and as things stand Linux offers the best of that. And even when I do run Win 20, I also run a Linux VM or two (Ubuntu - not my fave by far but best supported in VM, so very convenient - and Fedora) for all net related stuff and also file management. Alas, still need Win 10 for high-end scanning, some GFX (e.g., haven't found a Linux up yet that can store raster and vector layers in the same file without merging, among other things), and a few other things. All the office stuff I use is great, though I've thrown out LibreOffice everywhere for Apache Office which has better compatibility with MS Office. Audio/music apps are great, Debian and Fedora have great sound driver support, heaps of other good apps, and there's always Wine for the odd Win32 app like Notepad++ and when needed, VMs with Win 10 and XP. Not forgetting seamless drive encryption etc. :)

My main beef with Linux is that it's basically better Windows/Mac instead of being innovative and leading the way as it were. Just look at what's happening with stuff like Weyland and - let alone! - Compice! Pathetic, should both be standard by now and old hat. I'm in discussions with a few folks about something much more advanced with a completely new kind of interface or rather, interfaces, in virtual 4D.....

Anyway, good to see you've come out of hibernation too Jorge. Been lurking about now and then, but it's been so quiet in here for months....

Don't want to 'hijack' this thread, so I'm outta here before I get lynched! LOL!
