Ouch. Hard to diagnose in Chinese.

Did this begin happening immediately after installing Winstep Xtreme or only after doing some changes to NextSTART?

It happen right after the first launch,I can't even get to the config step, the taskbar showup and then error pops up then crash.
It can be run if it got lucky, but when I press Win Key it will bring up the start menu but the taskbar won't show up in full screen application.
Hope this can be solve,if not, looks like I pay extra for nothing lol,the nexus dock was great though. :(

You mean if you hit the 'Retry' button in that dialog?

Once it runs, does it do so without that error popping up again?

This is very difficult to diagnose if it is in any way related to the Chinese language as I can't install it here and, even if I could, I would be totally lost in a Chinese version of Windows. :) I take it WorkShelf has no such problem?

One more question:

Windows Control Panel -> Region -> Administrative tab -> Change System Locale button

Is 'Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support' checked? I know it can cause problems if it is.

Also, open the Windows Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application

Look for the crash entry related to NextSTART. Can you please copy the text and paste it here?

No,it got lucky that nothing pops up and it work, but if it got error, hit the retry buttton will lead to a endless loop until I hit cancel.

The Unicode option is uncheck by default.

I only find one log with a "!Error" related,I can try to switch the system language to english to see if I can copy it in english.

Well, I was kind of hoping to see something other than ntdll.dll in there (which would point the finger at a 3rd party application) - the fact that the error doesn't always happen doesn't help either. Random errors are a PITA to diagnose.

Out of how many <x> launches do you get 'lucky' with no error?

Also, try the following:

Open the Windows Registry, navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinSTEP2000\NextSTART

now look for the

StartbarQkRefresh

entry and change the value from True to False.

This will prevent NextSTART from automatically retrieving Windows Quick Launch shortcuts at startup (which are basically no longer used in Windows 10 anyway), just in case that is what is causing the problem.

Now try running NextSTART again.

Nope,still happening with the error.
Maybe 1 out of 10 it got lucky and run normally.
If it is related to 3rd party application,I am using too application that related to taskbar, one is Display Fusion for my Dual monitor setup, and one is startisback, but I have already tried disable these two,buy no lucky,it still happen.

Pity, I had high hopes.

Hmmm, both those applications are related to the Windows taskbar and Start Menu, which NextSTART also 'replaces' with its own version.

Try going to the same Registry key as above and setting

TaskbarRunOnStartup

to False. This will prevent NextSTART from replacing the Windows taskbar. Just to see what happens.

Is these cause by the error or by design? If these is by design,I may not wanted to use the Nextstart  just saying before you dig deep to diagnose.

You are supposed to left/right click the preview **thumbnails** of the running applications, not the icon itself - then it will behave as you expect.

The NextSTART taskbar is not just a 're-skin' of the Windows taskbar, it also has other functions and behaves a bit differently.

I think you should give NextSTART an opportunity first. Even if you don't like the replacement taskbar - and you can use it together with the Windows taskbar too, by the way - it also gives you much more than that, such as customizable menus, hotspots, a quick launch section that you can use not only to launch programs but also open docks, grid stacks, etc, etc...

You will also lose the desktop modules and skinnable context menus in the dock if you downgrade to Nexus Ultimate.

:| If those function of the taskbar is by design, that will be not convenient for me to use.And there is no point to show two set of taskbar and I don't even use one of it right?

So,no chance to downgrade and refund?
