 Post subject: License key does not work

Hello fans,

I have received my license key around end of october, saved it and double clicked on the file name (as should be the procedure to enter it).

However I still get the message calling for an update and
preferences state "License key is valid for all upgrades until October 23, 2013".

To distinguish old an new license key the new one is named Xtreme-2014-10.wsxkey There was no such problem with the old one a year ago (Xtreme-2013-10.wsxkey).

Just for curiosity I now have renamed the file back to just Xtreme.wsxkey and double clicked on it. And voilĂ : I got the Thank You message and Preferences > About display "... October 28, 2014".

I can rename even executable programs and they still work - why is this not possible for a key-file?

yes you should of never renamed it. all you should of done was doubled clicked it, made sure you got your added year, and then deleted the old key.

The reason why this doesn't work is probably only known to Jorge himself (the programmer). Perhaps it's some kind of protection, so that Winstep doesn't try to execute any and all files ending in .wsxkey indiscriminately.
In any case, it's not something that you have to do every day, so I don't suppose it's such a problem.
If you want to keep the file, you could always zip it and name the .zip file any way you like, and still keep the correct filename of the licence key inside.

Given that Jorge took care of another lost licence request only yesterday, I think you should check your "spam" folder of your e-mail system.
You should have had it within a few hours, so I'd check around those dates.
