Hey all. I've tried to look through the last several pages of general discussion to see if anyone else has this issue but couldn't find anything there or via search.

What I'd like help with is configuring the shelves so they opened from the title bar down, rather than their current behavior of the very bottom up. It's counter-intuitive for how the 'usual' blind style rollouts are, and it's really breaking my brain when I try and arrange floating shelves for easy access, but then the top of the shelf vanishes with the first row of icons at times.

Has anyone been able to do so? I've tried many of the settings for the shelves/individual shelf and can't find anything.

All help gratefully accepted.

Shelves are not like ordinary application windows, and they cannot be expected to behave in the 'usual' blind style rollouts fashion. Instead, they follow their own logic, consistent with their nature and relative to their position on screen. This topic has been debated to death in the past, as a search here in this forum would show. Oh, and shelves do *not* have title bars - they have multiple tabs.

What search term would be used to find this 'debated to death' thread? I'd be quite interested to read it.

I wasn't suggesting that they need to operate like "Windows" items. I was suggesting they should be able to mimic other software packages' behavior on such items.

Finally, should I take it that there isn't even going to be a configuration feature in the future that would change the standard behavior of their open/closing?

If I think I understand what you're trying to accomplish, try this.

Go into the WorkShelf Properties by pressing ctrl+F11, or right-clicking on WorkShelf > Shelf > Shelf Properties.

1. Click on the Appearance tab. Under the heading 'Icon Labels:', change the pulldowns to '1 line' and next to that, 'Below the icons'.

As a preference, I have 'Show icon grid' unticked, the same with 'Show icon drop shadows'.

2. Icon Alignment - Change the pulldown to 'Left Justified'

3. Tab Positioning - Change the pulldown to 'Bottom of the Shelf'

4. Tab Alignment - Change the pulldown to 'Centered'

5. Click on More Options. Check to make sure it's set at 1 line.

Numbers 1 & 3 are a must to do what I think you're trying to accomplish. The others are to your preference. I think if you change the rows to more than one line, it makes it harder to pinpoint a particular icon.

You have some control (not full which is the part that has been greatly debated, me being one of them) over how the icons are displayed.

The older versions were more intuitive as to the order in which the icons were displayed, from either the top, left to right in alphabetical order as I believe is normal, or in reverse order.

The closest settings I could find to be like the older versions is what I posted. See this thread for more related WorkShelf settings. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11759&p=40583#p40583
