 Post subject: Reduce Gap Between Shelf and Edge

As the title states there is a gap between the shelf and the monitor edge, at the moment I have it at the top of the screen but it dosnt matter which edge I use there is always a gap, is there a way to reduce this gap? please see screenshot.

I believe the gaps are determined by the theme itself...usually for blending or shadow effects.

OK thanks. Most of the themes I tried leave a gap of varying sizes, would be nice to over-ride the gap.
