Hi there!

I've got 2 Monitors (of the same kind) and a TV connected to my PC.

If the TV is on, I can't place the dock on Monitor 2 anymore - it can only be placed on Monitor 1 or Monitor 3 (TV).

Is the TV is off while booting the PC up, the dock get's placed on Monitor 2 (as it should) again - but if Windows recocnizes the TV it automaticall is transfered to the TV again...

I don't really get this, is there a solution?

Regards,
André

Make sure all monitors - including the TV - have the same DPI setting (e.g.; *all* 100% DPI or *all* 125% DPI).

It's 100% on every Screen, but no change.

If you had to change at least one of them to get them to 100%, it's best to reboot before trying multi-monitor stuff. After the reboot, try again.

If you didn't have to change anything, hopefully Jorge can help. :-)

No I didn't had to change any of the settings.
I still don't know what's causing this.

Ok, we can try to get to the bottom of this, but I will need you to start providing a TON of details. :D

First, can you provide a screenshot of what your Display Settings panel looks like WITH and also WITHOUT the TV (and which one is each?) Also, screen resolutions being used for each monitor (and the TV).

Finally, exactly what do you mean by 'cannot be placed on monitor 2' ? What exactly happens? Does the application list all the three monitors (let's just call the tv a monitor to simplify this) or you can only see two?

Hi - sorry for the later answer ^^'

Ok My Screen Settings Panel look like this:

Windows:

Image

3 and 1(Windows setting) are my Monitors (1 is Main) 2 (UMC Sharp) is my TV.
Resolutions are:

3: 1920 x 1080
1: 1920 x 1080
2: 3840 x 2160

Setting 2 (TV) to 1080p doesn't solve the problem.

Windows without my TV connected:

Image

If my TV isn't connected it works as it should - so the problem has to do with this somehow.

Every Monitor is shown in the dropdown List, as you can see, but it uses a different numbering than windows:

Image

I can choose every Monitor, but If I chose Monitor 2 nothing is happening, If I click "Ok" or "Apply" it automaticaly reverts to Monitor 3.
If I set it to Monitor 1 it stays there.
Only the dock on Monitor 2 doesn't stay.

I can't change the order of the monitors because it's automatically chosen by my Graphics Card (RTX 2060).

2 (TV) and 1 (Monitor) are Connectet via HDMI Cable
3 is Connectetd via DVI->HDMI

Display Port is also already occupied by my Oculus Rift S.

I hope those informations are helpful ^^

André

Thanks for all the info. I still think this is a DPI (NOT screen resolution) related issue and that your TV is not set to 100% DPI.

Let's try the following to understand how the Winstep application "sees" your three displays: download THIS UTILITY HERE, unzip and run the executable WITH THE TV CONNECTED to your system, then please paste back the results.

EDIT: Might as well run it again afterwards WITHOUT the tv connected, just in case eheh

I don't know how this is helpful...

Bit Here's the info you wanted (thanks ^^)

With TV:

Generic PnP Monitor (Primary Monitor): (0,0) - (1920,1080)
Generic PnP Monitor: (1920,0) - (1920,1080)
Generic PnP Monitor: (3840,0) - (3840,2160)

Without TV

Generic PnP Monitor (Primary Monitor): (0,0) - (1920,1080)
Generic PnP Monitor: (1920,0) - (1920,1080)

As I explained, it shows how the Winstep application "sees" your displays (i.e.; their position and their screen resolution). For instance, one of the problems of having different per-monitor DPIs is that Windows will then LITERALLY LIE to the application regarding the screen resolution of monitors and their coordinates.

Anyway, in this particular case I must confess I am kind of stumped. I see nothing wrong there that could cause the behavior you describe, so this is already grasping at straws:

1. Does the behavior remain if you physically unplug your Oculus Rift?

2. Is there any difference if you open Preferences, go to the General tab and toggle the 'Disable multi-monitor profiles' option?

3. Assuming you are running the latest version (v20.10), docks can be docked/undocked manually by left clicking and dragging them.

With the TV connected, first press - and keep pressing - the ALT key THEN left click on any point of the dock then drag it IN A PERPENDICULAR MOTION away from the screen edge. You should feel some resistance until the dock undocks and becomes a floating dock.

Now, without ever releasing the left mouse button and the ALT key, drag it to the problematic monitor and push it against the screen edge - the dock should attempt to auto-dock. What happens?

Hi!

Thanks for your effort to help me ^^

Ok..

This is really strange...

Today the dock stayed on the correct monitor the whole time, regardless of whether I had the TV on or not.
As soon as I open the settings, to briefly set the monitor to 1, confirm this, then set it back to the correct one, it jumps back to monitor 3 by itself.
When I closed the settings, it jumped back to the correct monitor ... I think the program wants to confuse me ...

I don't really get it...

Ok, one question, why are you always moving the docks around then?

With the multi-monitor profiles you can have different setups per each monitor configuration (e.g.; one with the tv on, another with the tv off).

I don't actually move it around, it moves by itself. Or at least it did... Since yesterday it seems to work - as long as I don't touch the settings.

It's just a strange behaviour.

I've had other docking tools before using this (I don't know if it's ok to write the names) and I never had any problem like this (but the support for the other tool I've used the most is long gone).

WinStep NeXuS looks cool and has the best features I've seen so far.

It's fine to talk about other products. You'll find we've talked about RocketDock, ObjectDock, etc., around here.

Yeah, we're a pretty liberal lot around here and Jorge is the most tolerant admin to be found anywhere. We even can live with legit criticism, especially if it's constructive. ;) Can't remember many occasions where Jorge blew his top - really takes a lot for that to happen! :) (Whereas I can lose my rag very easily! :P )
