....is back! For those that haven't noticed yet. :) I'm sure we all will want to extend a huge welcome back to Jorge!

Normal service will be resumed ASAP but until further notice, please continue to observe the requests not to use the support email address as well as not to post any feature requests and the like just yet. That is, not until Jorge decides he's ready for more. Thanks.

Hi Jorge! Glad to have you back! :D Now I can sleep a little better instead of worrying about how you're doing.

Shurely [sic!] you mean, 'Yank Thou', Jorge. ;) (It's the art of Spoonerism.)

I'd mark your post with a like or thumbs-up if our forum had that feature. Alas, we lack. So, consider this my "like." :-)

I have to say, thank goodness we don't have 'Like', 'Thumbs-Up' and the like. Ghastly business. The whole (anti-)social media thing, texting, mobile/cell phones.... Hate it all with a passion. Anyone who comes to see me, I always insist they have to switch off their sodding smartphones before they can come in, and in the past, when I was still able to go to clubs etc. I also used to insist my companion/s switch off at table and keep the thing in their pocket or bag. Alternative was, they wouldn't get taken again. (I used to get free tickets/guest list.) :)

All the more reason to add a "like" feature.

Incidentally, the like feature predates social media. Just because a feature is well-known on a platform you don't like is no reason to avoid said feature. Use your head instead of going with a visceral, knee-jerk reaction.

A "like" button is a way to keep the signal-to-noise ratio on the good side and still allow people to indicate they liked a post. In the case of Discourse, it does not affect the positioning or layout of posts (like it would on social media). So, it's simply a way to show, "Hey, this person said something that 23 people liked."

In addition, some boards have a feature that allows ONLY the original poster on a thread to mark a reply as the solution. So, if you're on a support forum (like this one) and you search for and find a question that matches your issue, at the bottom of the original post for that thread, you can see which message they marked as the solution and click on it to go read that solution in full. Again, this improves the signal-to-noise ratio.

Ooh, lighten up DD_Ric. :) No visceral, knee-jerk reaction there, rather, a very long and thoroughly considered opinion. The 'Like' or 'Thumbs-up' button, in my view, is an impoverishment of human verbal expression, an abomination. (Even more so as there never seems to be the exact opposite available.)

And how many people disliked or absolutely hated that same post? :P See, it's meaningless without the possibility of dissent. And even with that, it would still mean very little. Just look at the way that people vote on say, talent shows or shows like Strictly Come Dancing/Dancing With The Stars - not that I watch these in my view absurd shows - let alone in political elections. 'nuff said. We've already drifted too far off topic. :) I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. :)
