Hello, Im looking to upgrade my main boot drive ssd and wanted to just clone it but Im leaning towards a fresh install. Im most worried about losing my Nexus layout and settings as Ive tweaked them to perfection over a long period of time! Is there a way to just import my layout settings after a fresh windows install?

Thanks!

Sure.

Make a backup of your current settings via Preferences -> Advanced tab -> Backup and give it a meaningful name.

This by default should create a .wbk file inside the

C:\Users\Public\Documents\WinStep\Backup

folder.

Now you need to copy EVERYTHING inside the C:\Users\Public\Documents\WinStep folder into an external drive or a flash pen drive. This will save your settings as well as your themes, etc...

After the clean Windows install, you will have to install Nexus again. Once it is installed and running, exit it and copy all the files you previously saved to the same location as before.

Run Nexus again and there is one final thing to do: open Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, click the Restore button and restore the settings from the backup you previously made.

Of course, keep in mind that if you have shortcuts in the dock pointing to applications that haven't been installed yet on your fresh Windows install, those shortcuts will not work until you install the applications they point to.

Likewise, if you are using custom icons for some shortcuts in the dock, you must make sure to copy those icon image files to the new drive as well.
