I hope I do not get deleted. I have comeback and just installed nexus again. The weather icon during the day shows a moon and at night it shows a sun. Here is the log file and I see some errors. Just not sure how to fix them. Great app and much love for the hard work.

No, you won't get deleted.... :)

However, if you do a search of this forum - as indeed you should have done in the first place and now should do - you'd find that this subject has already been covered comprehensively. Happy searching. :)

Actually even I am not so sure this topic has been covered before, Ric (or at least I too need my memory refreshed). :D

I have to look at the code to see if there is a particular reason for the wrong daytime/nighttime icon - with all the different weather feed providers over the years this might be a legit bug that I can fix, although I don't see anyone else here complaining about this particular issue.

I did search and saw some similar topics and also saw it looks like an issue was never really solved. Many simply quiet threads. Last time I searched for help I was simply treated poorly by a mod and was basically called dumb. I was met with snarky comments from the mods. Thank your for your help.

Well any help is most appreciated. You do great work. I just decided to dual boot windows with linux and needed a dock and this has been my 1st choice for awhile. I searched for anything related to weather and it was incomprehensive what I found or seemed like it was unsolved in some cases. The temp appears fine just the icon will at times be wrong. Sometimes it coincides with the right time. Thank you though for any assistance.

I'm quite sure the 'wrong icon' issue had been raised at least once or twice, and IIRC that was probably already back in the weather.com feed days. And last time I tested the weather mod - about a couple of years ago or so - I did see that myself, or at any rate, the wrong icon in the daytime.

Ok, now that threw me off... one thing is to always be wrong (like reversed), another thing is when it only happens sometimes.

If you don't mind, I need you to pay special attention for 2 to 3 days and write down at what time the icon turns from day to night (and vice-versa, if you can). Or at least write down the time when you see a wrong day/night icon.

It could be a simple problem of daylight saving time or the weather module assuming it is already night time in your location - if it cannot access the sunrise/sunset data in your location, during Summer this might happen earlier than expected.

Like right now it's daytime and shows the right temp and sunny. Except it is supposed to be mostly cloudy. I would think it would show a sun with some clouds and it does not. I will look over the next few days.

This is the current log. I see it has some clouds.
For partly sunny.

First of all I assume you ACTUALLY are in Bedford, Texas, right?

You need to understand that while the weather module refreshes weather information every hour, the actual weather stations that measure the conditions might not be refreshing the information as often. How often they do that is on a case by case basis and has nothing to do with the weather module itself (plus weather can sometimes change on a dime). It also depends on where exactly the weather station is located.

All the weather module does is report current conditions (and forecasts) based on the information served by the weather provider (in this case Foreca/MSN).

Correct location. Well if it is midnight I am pretty sure it should not show a sun icon when I would think it would be a moon. That is what tells me it's something else. So it's not slightly different icon.

Hmm.... There's an anomaly in the Weather Module Settings -

Last checked : 03:24:20 etc.

Taken : 08:45

If the most recently taken data were timed at 08:45, the time of the last check by the module should be 09:45 or 10:45 (depending on when it was actually first checked by the mod). It couldn't have checked at 03:24 and show a later time than that as the time the data were gathered.

Something very screwy there....

Yes, but if you look at the debug code which Tickles also included, you will see it says

observationtime="04:00:00"

So, I suspect this is a timezone conversion bug. Most weather feed providers supply the times in GMT/UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) but MSN seems to do so in Local Time (to the location). When the time is given in UTC it must be converted to local time so the user can see it in his own timezone.

I think this is an issue where the weather module thinks the observation time is UTC when the MSN weather feed is actually providing it in Local Time. Add to that Daylight Saving Time to complicate matters further, and this might explain the wrong icon (and wrong observation time).

I will have to look at the code.

EDIT: There is, however, something else that does NOT add up. You say the weather was retrieved at 3:24 AM (and that coincides with the time shown in the Weather Module Settings panel) BUT NOT with the debug code. The debug code says it's 09:42:28 GMT when the request was made, it does not match the minutes in the 3:24 time shown in the Last Checked field (plus the observation time is 04:00, regardless of that being local or not, again it does not match the minutes in the 8:45 time shown in the Taken field).

Are you sure the debug code you pasted was belongs to the same request at 3:24 AM? It does not look like it? :|

Can you please click the Get Weather button and only AFTER paste both a screenshot of the Weather Module Settings panel as well as the contents of the Weather.log file? This way we will know they are truly matched. Easier to figure out what is wrong that way.

I got them very close timeframe earlier. Since I had to open the settings to get weather, they were done very close on my side. Here though is the same again done even closer. During the day it seems fine so far, it is just at night it has shown the sun when it should be the moon. So will post as needed to help you to help me. Thank you for taking the time and helping.
