Hi. when there resolution change, often workshelf stops reserving space (see images). is there a simple way to force it to apply the reservation again (simpler than restarting the app or going t settings and toggling it off/on)

not reserving space (after resolution change):

The Winstep application should reset the appbars (reserved screen space area) whenever there is a screen resolution change.

Are you running Windows 11 by any chance?

No, on windows 10, 64, this has been an issue since i remember. it does reset sometimes but often not.

Most fullscreen games do ok, some cause the issue, but most often this happens after i connect/disconnect a monitor or change from duplicated to extended monitor

I'm still on v 20.4.

edit: I think it is/was the same on my win 7 laptop, but I rarely use it so I'm not quite sure

v20.4?! :(

I made some radical changes in v22.7 to what happens when there is a screen resolution change, etc...

From the version history file:

"Improved transitioning to and from full screen apps plus handling of screen resolution and monitor number changes."

This said, I am still seeing problems from time to time, but apparently only under Windows 11. Microsoft replaced the classic Windows taskbar with some weird hybrid monster without their new young programmers taking the time to fully understand how the whole appbar reserve screen space mechanism works.

This is perfectly obvious when you see what happens to Action Center on Windows 11 if a toolbar reserves screen space at the top of the screen (it gets cropped, see related topic somewhere in this forum).

Wait, v20.4 does not exist, only v20.10. I think Seeker meant the v22.4 beta?

Anyway, the code for dealing with screen resolution changes etc was completely re-written between v20.10 and v22.7.

Still, adding an IC (Internal Command) to manually reset the reserved screen space areas would actually be a good idea given the issues I am still seeing occasionally with Appbars on Windows 11.

Also, if you guys want to see what changed in each release, you can:

1. Open Preferences
2. Click on the version number in the top right corner of the About tab in Preferences.
3. Click 'View Change Log' in the dialog that pops up.

Wasn't there a 20.4 beta? Nah, I think I am getting things muddled, sorry. Anyway, IC seems a good idea.

thank you for the key Jorge.
Unfortunately update didn't solve the issue. when i change multi-monitor setup from extended to duplicate (in windblows settings) reservation goes away and doesn't re-apply

Guess we need that IC then.

What about the games that were previously problematic, no difference on those either?!

its been a while since a game caused it, and i don't remember which. i think it happened with games that didn't use native desktop resolution, and launching them would trigger windows to flicker screen

Just added a new "Reset Reserved Screen Space" IC, which can be added/run from either NextSTART or WorkShelf, doesn't matter as it automatically resets the reserved screen areas of both applications anyway.

Seems to be working fine so far.

Only thing is, when you click on it if the reserved screen areas are already as they should be, nothing will seem to happen (i.e.; there is no feedback when you run the IC, which might induce the user to think nothing happened). Perhaps I should add a dialog box with an OK button saying 'Reserved Screen Areas Reset'?
