I have just updated to 25.7 but unfortunately that means I can no longer see my System Tray icons. They were there in the previous build. I run ExplorerPatcher, which allowed Nexus to show them.

I can live with an earlier build if that means I can see the icons. So assuming the latest build has changed something that I can't alter, is there somewhere that I can download a previous build? I can't remember which one I was on but I assume it was 24.6 or whatever the last one was.

As you know from Windows 11 22H2 forward Microsoft moved the tray to XAML islands and removed legacy code that still allowed 3rd party applications to access the tray icons.

I added a work-around, a cog icon that would give access to the tray Quick Settings Panel, but that is way less than optimal, as it is not the same as having the major system icons visible, i.e. the net, volume and battery icons.

As a result in v25.7 I added fully functional "clones" of these tray icons. Since it was official that Windows 11 22H2 no longer allowed access to the tray icons, to save CPU cycles I did not even bother trying.

And so I completely forgot about "hacks" such as Explorer Patcher.

Instead of reverting to the previous version, give me a couple of days and I'll come up with a beta that restores access to the system tray icons if Explorer Patcher (or anything like that) is installed.

Ok, should have already fixed it here, I'll let you know as soon as the beta is available for download.

Ok, since you are running Nexus Ultimate, download the v25.8 beta from HERE, exit all running Winstep applications, unzip and run setup.

Please let me know if that fixed the problem of original tray icons now showing despite ExplorerPatcher being installed.

It's very good of you to respond so quickly. Thanks for that.

Unfortunately the system tray hasn't appeared. You can see in the screen shot that I still just see the blue dot (the Nexus bar is on the left side).

I've rebooted. And I've tried creating a new dock that shows the system tray, but same outcome. Anything else I should try?

It is important to provide feedback equally as fast.

If I am in the middle of adding stuff to a new release (as I am) I can't simply pause everything waiting for you to reply to know if a fix worked, and there will be times when doing structural changes to the code that it will be unfit to a public release of any type for a while.

Yes, I can see it is still using the "replacement" system tray.

I don't use Explorer Patcher. I assumed that if it was indeed working when the Winstep application queried Explorer about the number of icons in the systray it would return something other than 0.

If it returns 0 the application assumes it is running under a version of Windows 11 that does not allow tray icons to be retrieved anymore (and that Explorer Patcher is not running either) and uses the "clone tray" version instead.

I'll look at the code again to see if I might have done some mistake, but in the mean time please post a screenshot of what your real system tray looks like in the Windows taskbar (together with the tray expansion area, the pop up you get when you click on the blue arrow in the dock and in the up chevron in the taskbar)
