Nope, there's no kind of theme editor. Adapting an existing theme can be very simple, but can also be fraught with problems, depending on the theme and what you want to do. If it's just a matter of using different gfx, no problem as long as the new gfx are the same size and resolution as the original ones. Any reasonable GFX app should be able to handle that, and there certainly is none better than The GIMP - at least, the Linux version is, not sure if the Windows one is identical.

A 'theme editor' would essentially have to be the same as a Theme Builder - not a simple thing to do given the complexities involved. Best advice - hands off. :D

As Nexter states you would effectively need to create a Theme Builder, unless your changes are 'very' simplistic.

Winstep did create a prototype Theme builder many years ago (search through these forums for information on that) - but it was never completed, and became 'the thing not to be discussed!'

However if you wish to spend your time creating such a tool then I would be interested in the result. It will not be easy as the Theme controls are not very well documented, but they can be learned (/experimented with) as you can see from some of the great themes that people on this board have produced.

The Theme Builder is "The Thing That Must Not Be Named" - oops, I dunnit again! ;)

I'm afraid I must very much disagree techlobo. A Theme Builder is not a thing to be undertaken lightly and it's very easy to do more harm than good. Hence my initial advice - Hands off! The only person who would be qualified to create a TB is Jorge, only he knows the inner workings of the apps intimately. He might yet surprise us and undertake the task when/if he gets bored enough - it is a long, hard, boring job, make no mistake.

I certainly wouldn't like to use anything like a TB that was not created by Jorge - simply wouldn't trust anyone else, unless I could check out the full source code, or put another way, it would have to be fully open source.
