 Post subject: Memory usage??

Anybody know how nextstart stacks up against explorer in terms of memory usage / cpu utilization????

LOL...NS uses a *lot* less memory and CPU is negligable. There is a slight peak when the Main NS panel opens, but it's nothing. I'm using XP SP1 with 512 mb of RAM.

Ted, another thing that you should be aware of given your question is that NextSTART is not a shell and was never intended to be used as a shell replacement. NextSTART is meant to run on top of a shell, be it Explorer, Litestep or GeoShell, etc...

This said, you can still use NextSTART as the shell (heck, you can even use Notepad as the shell :D ) but you will lose things like the Systray, etc...

In this day and age of multi-megabyte OSs where 256/512 MB of RAM is the norm rather than the exception, I think these type of questions are a bit 'meaningless'. :wink:

Ahhh.. I was under the impression that it could function as a shell, like litestep....

as for the huge memory issue... I still like to have all that I can :)
especially when I'm working on my huge spreadsheets....
