If I'm running nextstep, I am unable to add tasks to windows task scheduler. When I get to the end, I get an 0x80070003 error that it can't find the file I specified.
If I stop NextStep and then set it, it works perfectly!

NextSTART does NOT interfere with the normal operation of Windows. What OS version are you running and what EXACTLY (i.e. step-by-step) are you doing to add a scheduled task?

Running XP Pro SP2 with all latest patches.
Running NextStart with the NextStep theme.

Go through the following steps - all on the NextStart menus...
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks - Add Scheduled Task

The Scheduled Task wizard opens...
Press Next
Browse to the program I want to schedule & select it
Select the schedule frequency
Enter the user password twice
Press Finish

I then get the error message
"New task cannot be created. 0x80070003. The system cannot find the path specified. Try using the task page browse button to locate the application" (Which, of course, I had done!)

If I close NextStart and use Windows Start - Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks then Add schedule task and follow EXACTLY the steps above, then it works perfectly.

This is repeatable, and it doesn't matter what application I try to schedule.

Good thing you gave me that step-by-step description, wouldn't have been able to reproduce it otherwise.

Anyway, to cut a long story short: that is not a problem with NextSTART, it is actually a Scheduled Tasks Wizard bug!

Microsoft never intended - therefore never tested - the Scheduled Tasks Wizard to be run from anything other than the Scheduled Tasks folder. For some reason the Wizard fails to reset the (or something along those lines) Start In folder for the scheduled job and ends up making a mess and creating the job in the root of the C: drive instead of c:\windows\tasks folder. That's why it throws up that error.

Just to see how badly Microsoft went with this Wizard, you will see if you try that it is the only virtual object from which a shortcut cannot be made if you try to drag it into another folder (i.e.; drag, say, a virtual object from the Control Panel into a folder and a shortcut will be created into it - try to do the same with the Scheduled Tasks Wizard and you will find out you can't).

As explained above, this has nothing to do with NextSTART. To by-pass this Microsoft bug, double click on the Schedule Tasks menu item to open it in an Explorer windows instead of a NextSTART sub-menu, then run the Wizard from there.

I wasn't blaming NextStep! We all know MS isn't perfect!!!
It's just worthwhile people knowing it doesn't work this way!
