New NS beta problem: please help

First, I subscribed to the Yahoo Winstep Beta mailing/Group & have access to their forum. BUT, I still cannot access the Winstep Forums "beta software discussion" - where I would have made this post! What more to I have to do to access that forum?

I installed the new NS beta according to instructions. Now, none of my themes will load (except Aquazone which was the last to be loaded prior to the install). They are all installed, show up in menus, but will not load. I do not understand! Please help. Thanks.

Access to the Beta Software Discussion forum

Only registered Winstep users are allowed in this forum. This is what you have to do if you are a registered Winstep user and you want to access the Beta Software Discussion forum:

1) Register with the forum if you haven't done so already.
2) Make sure you are logged in.
3) Click on Usergroups at the top of the page.
4) Join the 'Registered User' usergroup.
5) Wait for a confirmation email. Users are manually accepted into this group, so be patient because this might take some time.
6) Once you receive an email confirming your acceptance into the Registered Users group, you are free to access the Beta Software Discussion forum.

Ahem. Can you spell BUG? It has been fixed already, but you will have to wait for the next version to be released. In the mean time, you can change themes by doing it either from WorkShelf or from the Themes Manager tab in NextSTART Preferences. Sorry.

I had made a Quick-Launch item containing all my themes. This was EXTREMELY CONVENIENT. Is there any way to restore that? If I recreate it, will it still not work due to bug?

What if I do a RESTORE of NS? I had done a backup AFTER configuring all my themes, etc. Would that work? I don't want to do it until I hear back because it probably does not include ALL my latest config. changes.

Finally, is there any way to go back to the pre-beta installation? Why? Because I valued immensely the ability of switching themes from my QUICK-LAUNCH item.

The only thing affected is the capability to launch items from a NextSTART menu. It's a code issue, so restoring from a backup would do NOTHING to solve it.

Anyway, there should be a new beta that fixes those problems very soon now, but, if you can't wait, look in your c:\program files\winstep\backup folder. The previous version executable file should be there. Just copy it on top of the new beta executable located in c:\program files\winstep. Don't forget to exit NextSTART first, of course!

When I "Clicked on Usergroups at the top of the page", "Registered User" was ALREADY selected in the new window which came up - I did not have to "Join the 'Registered User' usergroup. There was nothing to do in that window (no button to click on to JOIN or an OK button). So I just exited the window not knowing whether I had in fact "joined". In any case, it has been about a week & I have not received an e-mail. I don't know what to do or even if my "joining" was successful? Please help.

Sorry, one step missing then. After clicking on the Usergroups at the top of the page. the "Registered User" group will indeed be selected. Next to it you should find a 'View Information' button. Click on it, it is on the next panel that you are given the opportunity to join the group.

Not sure if this was already like this or if the joining method changed a bit with the update of the PHPBB code (the code that runs this Forum) to the latest version, either way, I'll add the new step to the FAQ.
