Ok, just tested Winstep Xtreme on the public beta (build 7000) of Windows 7. It works, except for some problems with the systray.

@ Winstep
Do you intend to implement the superbar feature of Win 7 and IE 8 that
shows thumbs of all tabs ? ( in Vista with IE 8 ).
Up to now only the active tab is thumbnailed!
Or is this only a Win 7 interface ?

It will all depend on wether the windows thumbnail API has been extended to support this or not. But, if it does, it will probably be a feature available under Win7 only. Or I might be able to come up with a work around that also works in Vista... we'll see, it's too early to say. :D

Hey Jorge, I am going to give Windows 7 a run here shortly. Based on what you know and your tests, it the "Problems with the systray" you mentioned similar/same to that of Vista?

Do you think they will be fixed with the Vista systray issues in the next release?

Thanks.

OK, just saw what you meant by the "systray issues". Not the same issue as vista....I hope you can take a look at that (even thought Windows 7 is just a beta)....I am liking Windows 7 and may keep it for a while as my primary OS.

We shall see....

It is pretty sad...and probably very frustrating...but being a techy geek, I have no choice but to run the latest and greatest...I assume you understand where I am coming from and can help a brotha' out!

As an update to my Windows 7 experience. I am now just using Workshelf, due to the NextStart systray issues.

I am running the 64-bit version of Win 7 (build 7000). The CPU meter is not working properly. It will show a CPU load of zero at all times. In the top procs list, I see the percentages ok, but most process names (but not all) are blank).

EDIT: I am noticing that a lot more of the icons are showing up as puny...I had mentioned this before in a post before my time on Win7....but it only happened on a couple icons.

Based on these items, I am going to stop using Workshelf as well...unitl I decide to go back to Vista...or until there is a fix on the WinStep side. I understand that I am not using a supported OS, so I certainly do not expect to have a fix any time soon.

Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback... :D

Using the 64 bit version of a Windows version yet to be released isn't helping much, though...

FYI, in case anyone is following this topic

My time with Win 7 was VERY short. I found it too slow (yes, believe it or not). Maybe that was due to the debugging/feedback code MS put in there. And there were several "glitches" with programs that I like to use, including Winstep.

So I am back on W2K8 (which is pretty much same core as Vista, but faster). Winstep works just like on Vista :D

I perfectly understand the need to try the latest and greatest, but deciding to permanently dive into a beta version of an OS (or being the 'early bird') is asking for a lot of trouble and frustration while you wait for Microsoft and third parties to fix any glitches.

You better off like this, trust me. :D
