Post your system info... Brand, RAM, Processor, OS...

Consider starting fewer programs at boot-up.

I don't think that's a problem with the type of CPU or the amount of RAM available. One of the test computers here is a 500 Mhz P4 with 384 MB RAM and WorkShelf runs fine in it.

I would say something in your system is interacting with WorkShelf, causing it to max out CPU utilization. Figuring out what it is, however, is another story.

Do you have any experience working with Sysinternal's tools like Process Monitor?

This is not a common problem, which means it's probably something specific to your system. Because of this, I can't reproduce the problem here in order to figure out what might be causing the high CPU utilization.

This means you will have to do some detective work yourself (for instance, use the tools I mentioned to profile Registry and Hard Disk access in relation to the WorkShelf process, delete modules from the docks/shelf to see if one of them is causing the problem, etc...)

What Winstep Xtreme version are you running? Or are you running the free stand alone version of Nexus?

Do you mean v9.5 or v8.11? You can check that out in the About tab of either NextSTART or WorkShelf Preferences.

Try the following:

1 - Open WorkShelf Preferences.
2 - Navigate to the Module Preferences tab.
3 - For *all* the modules, disable 'Show in All Shelves' and 'Show on Desktop'.
4 - Press Ok.

Now, delete ALL the modules in ALL the docks, sub-docks and Shelf tabs. None may be left.

Exit and restart WorkShelf. Since no modules are being displayed, either in the Shelf, the docks or on the desktop, the module routines should not be running now.

Do you still have WorkShelf using 90% or over of your CPU?

If not, one of the modules is the culprit. To figure out which one it is, add each module type, one by one, to the dock.

Let me know what you come up with please...

Are you sure you removed all the modules from the 'Main' Shelf tab too?

Also, I don't understand what you mean by 'I wanna know what workshelf is loading', sorry. Can you please elaborate?

Anyway, if all the modules are indeed closed and Workshelf is still using 100% of your CPU, then unfortunately it's time to bring out the big guns: first you need to download Sysinternal's Process Monitor from THIS PAGE.

Run it and you get a dialog asking you to set the 'Process Monitor Filter'. Change 'Architecture' to 'Process Name' and type in 'workshelf.exe' in the text box next to it, click 'Add' and then 'Ok'.

Process Monitor will now log all file/registry activity for WorkShelf. Let it run for about 30 seconds and then click the small hourglass icon right below the 'Event' menu header to stop capture. Now click File -> Save to save the log file in PML format and send the resulting log file to the Winstep support address so I can have a look at it.

Hope this helps,
