Installed Winstep Xtreme on new Win7 x64 setup. But my labels over the quickstart spots and tasks and systray in NexStart are only white boxes. How can I show the names of the items? also the right side clock on bar doesnt show. any help? thanks.

I think you mean tooltips rather than labels, right?

1 - Did you change anything from the default setup?

2- What language is your Win7 installation?

3 - Do dock and shelf labels and tooltips appear properly?

4 - What is your Winstep Xtreme version?

1. yes tooltips. dont remember changing anything from default, I went into preferences and checked the systray preferences button and made sure in misc 'tooltips' was checked, unchecking it just makes the white box go away, re-enabling it brings back white box.

2. English

3. Workshelf dock gives name beside highlighted icon, shelf highlights icon and gives window and icon info

4. version 9.5, downloaded and installed 22 oct 09

Thanks for your replies to my questions. Any chance of a screenshot showing one of the blank tooltips, please?

Thanks for the picture, it allows me to know that at least the tooltip is the proper size...

Could you please provide one more screenshot of the tooltip (cropped so the only the tooltip and its shadow is visible) but this time at real size? Need to know if the tooltip is using the layered window method to draw itself or not, and I can't because that picture is too scaled down...

Ok, that's the layered window version. So far no idea why this might be happening... I'm typing this from the Win7 RC 7100 x64 build and I have no such problem...

One thing though: the taskbar window preview thumbnails are missing! Did you turn those off or...? Is Aero Glass off because your graphics card does not support it? It seems to be from your original screenshot, but it's hard to tell...

I tried the Troubleshoot --> Reset everything and now I get the thumbnail preview picture above the taskbar item, but still white box over Systray and Quicklaunch. OS is Win7 Professional x64, vidcard GTS 250 512Mb, 8 gig ram, Phenom II 710. I click on desktop and Personalize menu and chose the first Aero theme so Glass should be on. If you can point me to a menu to adjust this further I'll try it. But when I exit NextStart the regular taskbar and systray works fine. I'll try a complete uninstall and reinstall of Winstep.

No joy on uninstall and reinstall of Winstep. I have no trouble with labels/tooltips outside of NextStart.

You know, I can already see something is wrong with the actual text: that caption in the window preview thumbnail (the one that says 'Global Preferences') should be crisp and WHITE - instead it seems to be transparent since you can see the green behind it. I guess the two issues are somehow related and the text in the tooltip (which should be black) is transparent and therefore not visible...

Beats me for now why this only affects the tooltip and the thumbnail and not the rest of NextSTART.

ok mystery solved. ran into a problem running a game where the text was all wrong, and could not select the ARIAL.TTF. somehow it was no longer in the windows\fonts folder, but was still in the windows\system folder, so right clicked on it and used INSTALL menu option to install it in FONTS folder, and on a hunch reloaded WinStep. Cannot figure out how it got deleted or wasnt installed in FONTS folder, but that cured it.
thanks for lookin into the matter with the speed you did.
