Hello,

I have been a long time user of objectdock but just recently purchased Nexus.

I have been trying to use my objectdock backgrounds with no luck. I place the files in the Nexus background folder and the name of the backgrounds shows up in the nexus backgrounds menu but the backgrounds do not display in the preview and they will not apply.

Please help as the ability to us object dock backgrounds was a big reason I went ahead and tried nexus.

Thanks

Most likely you have more than one objectdock background per folder...?

Can you please post a screenshot displaying the *contents* of:

1 - The Nexus\Backgrounds folder.
2 - The folder containing one of the Objectdock skin that shows up on the Themes Manager but does not apply or preview (for instance, select one of those backgrounds in Nexus Preferences and then click on the 'Open Folder' button).

Thanks,

I am also having trouble with importing objectdock backgrounds...

This one in particular.

http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx? ... 0&libid=29

I use the import feature within backgrounds on the dock and it shows up blank in the preview when I click on it. And when I click apply the dock does not show the background.

Can anyone else try this and let me know if the same happens?

thanks

Ok, you are both menntioning the same OD theme, and that theme has TWO problems in relation to Nexus:

1 - If you import it instead of manually extracting it: it comes in a zip, and inside the zip there is a folder. This means the folder structure ends up being

...\Winstep\Nexus\Backgrounds\BlackOps\BlackOps

(with the first blackops folder being empty of files)

instead of

...\Winstep\Nexus\Backgrounds\BlackOps\

as it should.

2 - The theme has multiple INI configuration files, while Nexus expects a single Background.INI file.

I'll try to give Nexus the ability to handle these type of OD themes ASAP - in the mean time you can solve the problem by separating each INI file into its own folder (together with the relevant bitmaps, of course).

you know, I figured it out just before your reply. I had to have just one background.ini in the root folder with all the bitmaps, works a treat.
I appreciate the efforts of getting this fixed for the next release, it will make it a tad easier to work with imports....

thanks!

Does anyone have any idea what a negative value for TopHeight means in an ObjectDock background?

Thanks.

I took mikeyo's suggestion and renamed the background-h1.ini in the dock folder to just background.ini and it picked up the background.

I really appreciate all of your hard work on this project, it's great.

I bought the whole NextStart suite I was so impressed by what you are doing and the effort that you put into this.

That fix to make Nexus accept the OD backgrounds without the need to manually apply some tweaks would be awesome.

Thanks again.

Ok, I've just uploaded Nexus 9.12 and Winstep Xtreme 9.12 beta 6.

I suggest you open WorkShelf Preferences, navigate to the Advanced Tab, enable the 'Notify me of beta (test) versions' setting, click Apply, and then the 'Check For Updates' button. :D

Please let me know how it went...

Multiple OD backgrounds and subfolders now works, great stuff.
I still have a niggling issue with placeholders. It seems the separator bitmaps included with OD themes does not scale to the 3d leopard style shape of the dock background. Nexus treats the placeholder bitmap just like an icon, is this by design? Am I doing something wrong?

The problem was with the negative values (TopHeight, etc...) in the config files of the separator bitmaps in OD 3D backgrounds. I fixed it here and they seem to be working ok, at least for bottom based docks.

Is your dock at the top or bottom of the screen?

Anyway, let me check again.

my dock is based at the bottom of the desktop

If the background.ini does not have information regarding the separator bitmap, does this mean that placeholders will just appear as normal bitmaps on the dock? I suppose what I'm ultimately asking, if it would be at all possible to have the placeholder bitmap size and positioning configurable?

Jeff made such a huge mess with his negative TopHeight etc values that I don't think anybody quite understands what is going on, except by trial and error. Even ObjectDock itself is flaky: increase the icon size of a 3D OD dock and you'll see the separator extend outside the background (for instance, this happens with the BlackOps 3D background for icon sizes above 90 pixels).

Anyway, I'm still looking into this.
