Does this also mean you can have soft corners, drop shadows etc in the menus?

Yep. All of that.

But the new file details menu is awesome.

Hmmm... Not sure if you realised this, but the only thing new there is the thumbnail. Whatever else shows up in the context menu is the same thing that would appear in Explorer's own context menu. In my case I have ACDSee, WinRAR and WS_FTP installed, and they all add context menu extensions.

Ok, and how about this one?

Image

Here you can see, besides the thumbnail in context menus that we already discussed before, that you can now also use the Send To, Open With, etc... context sub-menus. These are owner drawn menus, though, so they won't be skinned by NextSTART.

And you can see the new window snapshot in the tasklist feature at work too!

Personally I think that the context menu thumbnails, Send To sub-menus and the task snapshots are GREAT usability enhancements, something that proves Xtreme is not about eye candy alone. :D

A great feature and good looking too. I love it. Makes me realise I have some NextStart skinning to catch up on though :(

Yep, with a friend of mine back in the Expo98 days, when I was working in the Virtual Reallity Pavillion. Ahhhh, those were the days. 4 months of pure, unadulterated, fun! :D

I'm working on the NextStart components. Old versions that is. When I finish this theme it will only work on the Xtreme version of Workshelf but both versions of NextStart. It's a bit hard to replicate the Transparent sections of the shelves from this theme into the old versions.

Hey, very nice! :D

Anyway, hard, but not impossible. The point is that users on Win9x can at least use the theme, it obviously will never look as good as the version with alpha transparency. Desktop modules I wouldn't bother much because they will fall back to the non-advanced skinning version. As for the transparent tabs, I would make them either all white or all black for the non per-pixel-alpha version. That's what I did with Aero.

Re-did the Aero menus. What do you think now? Better than the old version? This gives the menus a 'flat' glassy look, which is a more accurate redition of the real thing and goes better with WorkShelf. The active menu white part is also fully opaque.

Just installed the newest update and it fixed all my woes :) Thanks. The active menues are not opaque on my installation, but I think they look great!! So does the water ripple effect. That's kookie LOL

That looks cool Jorge. I don't know if I like it any better though. I liked how the top and bottom of the old-version menus matched the start bar. But the new version does have the flatness of the modules. I'm happy either way :)

For those who are not registered Winstep users or haven't joinned the Beta Discussion Forums, here is another taste of what you are missing out:

Image

Cabal theme port by Burt Porter. The desktop and in-shelf recycle bin and email modules are fully animated. Wanda shows off the new overlay bitmap (if you look closely you should notice that part of the fish is overlaid by the bitmap).

As you can see, the theme uses per pixel alpha for the desktop modules but doesn't go overboard with it in the remaining parts.

Hey Jorge, I think I am being dumb.... My Cabal Xtreme recycle bin is not animated... Am I missing something obvious?

No, the theme is.

There was a bug in the Save theme function of WorkShelf Preferences which prevented it from saving the animation strip bitmap. When I changed the name of the theme to 'Xtreme' it therefore didn't copy the bitmap to the new folder. Since nobody complained until now, I only found out about this today when testing public beta 2 on another machine here.

You can download an updated version of the Cabal Theme, this time with the email animation, from here:

Errr, wait a minute. Did you say Recycle Bin? That should be working if you are running the latest private beta 2 preview. You should see the center of the recycle bin light up and down.

Anyway, try it with the new theme.
