I am testing both Nexu and Winstep. Nexus seems to work fine with animated wallpeper but Winsetp only displays a static image. Is there a trick to starting the animation. Right clicking on the desktop shows it's set to animate and toggling pause and run does anothing.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have tried both regular deskscape and Stardock's dreamscape animations with nu luck.

Try telling Winstep NOT to hide desktop icons.
