please can you tell me how to set up the email checker to check my emails from my hotmail/live.com account please as i dont know how to set this up thanks

As far as I know, Hotmail does not allow POP3 access unless you're paying Microsoft for it.

Use pop.live.com and smtp.live.com for access to your Hotmail/Live accounts. Make sure that your username is your full email. This should help you!

My apologies for the mis-information then, I wasn't aware MS had begun offering POP3 access to free hotmail accounts.
