I just installed Winstep Xtreme and upon activating the license which I received just today, get the following message:
Quote:
Subscription to update service has expired

Subscription was valid for updates released until: December 14 2011

Would you like to renew your subscription now?

Please, can you tell me what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Additionally, Winstep is crashing every time I try to open up Preferences.

I think the best solution would be a clean uninstall/reinstall. So, if you can walk me through that, that would be just as good.

Thanks,

Greg

Did you download Winstep Xtreme from the Winstep web site? Did you have an older version running previously?

If you want to try a clean install, do you want to keep your current settings or it doesn't matter?

Yes, I downloaded it from your website. It's the latest version (10.9) and was downloaded on Oct 18th. (I'll try redownloading if you think that will help.) As for losing my settings, I managed to make a backup of the dock and taskbar settings before I lost access to the Settings functionality, so I should be safe (fingers crossed).

First, make sure your system date is correct and that the year hasn't been set to 2011 or above by mistake.

If that's not it, let's try first without a clean re-install:

1. Exit all running Winstep applications.
2. Go to C:\Program Files\Winstep\ (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Winstep\ if you are running a 64 bit version of Windows) and delete nextstart.exe, workshelf.exe and wsorganizer.exe .
3. Download the latest version of Winstep Xtreme from here.
4. Unzip and run the setup program.

Let me know how it turned out.

Brilliant. Thank you. That seemed to fix the two problems above. However, one more remains... I'm unable to select an application by clicking its corresponding icon on the taskbar. If the app is minimized, I have to Alt-Tab to get to it. Very annoying. Any suggestions?

Seems like the user defined mouse click actions on the tasklist were wiped out.

Try the following:

1. Open NextSTART Preferences.
2. Go to the Taskbar tab.
3. Click the Tasklist Settings button.
4. Click the Tasklist Actions button.
5. Default actions for clicks on tasklist buttons are:

Left Click: Bring to Front/Minimize
Middle Click: Close
Right Click: Open Task Menu

Aaaaah... much better! Thank you. So, if those were wiped out, might there be any other settings which may have been wiped out as well that I've not yet discovered? Where do you suggest I look to get a birds eye view, sort of speak?

Probably better to leave things as they are now... Those settings are part of only a handful that are shared between WorkShelf and NextSTART. Most settings were not affected.

Ok, sounds good. If I notice anything else out of wack, I'll be in touch. Thanks for the help, Jorge!
