AS far as I know I have turned off the outlines that appear over the icons in WorkShelf when you mouse over them, but I still get them. And after I've moused over the outlines stay until I change to a different shelf.

I have set colours for those that like them, but I'd like to make sure they are not showing for those like me that don't like them. The theme I'm building also has the icons sitting over a semi-transparent section in the WorkShelf and I'm wondering if this is why I'm getting icon outlines.

Just to make sure, where do you turn outlines on/off again?

Jason, now you got me confused! :D

One thing is the icon selector, which only appears when you mouse over an icon and can be either a rectangle or a blob. The other are the 'Frames Around the Icons' that is the icon grid and is always present (hmmm, 'icon grid'.... that's a much better name than 'frames around the icons', hehe)

So, which are you refering to?

That's what I was trying to say :)

In my TJ theme (the pink one ;)) I get a pink rectangle on mouseover. But when I leave the icon the top and bottom lines remain. I think it may be because I have the icons over a slightly transparent section.

Otherwise that theme is now finished and ready to upload. I'm still waiting to hear from the photographers whose material I used to create the wallpaper in my other theme.

Hmmm, what are your horizontal and vertical icon spacing settings?

These photographers... send them another email, this time marked 'URGENT'. That might get their attention.

Changing the spacing doesn't seem to make a difference for me.

I'll send you the theme to have a look at.

In regards to my Recur theme, I used photos from stock.xchng (http://www.sxc.hu/) that all state 'There are no usage restrictions for this photo.' but I thought it best to ask them directly to make sure. Is specific permission therefore required?

What do people think?

This is what is stated in their Legal Information page:

You may use the Image

*In digital format on websites, multimedia presentations, broadcast film and video, cell phones.
*In printed promotional materials, magazines, newspapers, books, brochures, flyers, CD/DVD covers, etc.
* Along with your corporate identity on business cards, letterhead, etc.
* To decorate your home, your office or any public place.

You may not use the Image

*For pornographic, unlawful or other immoral purposes, for spreading hate or discrimination, or to defame or victimise other people, sociteties, cultures.
*To endorse products and services if it depicts a person.
*In a way that can give a bad name to SXC or the person(s) depicted on the Image.
*As part of a trademark, service mark or logo.
* SELLING AND REDISTRIBUTION OF THE IMAGE (INDIVIDUALLY OR ALONG WITH OTHER IMAGES) IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN! DO NOT SHARE THE IMAGE WITH OTHERS!

Always ask permission from the photographer if you want to use the Image

* In website templates that You intend to sell or distribute.
* For creating printed reproductions that You intend to sell.
* On "print on demand" items such as t-shirts, postcards, mouse pads, mugs (e.g. on sites like Cafepress), or on any similar mass produced item that would contain the Image in a dominant way.

###

I think the main points here is that they don't want you to SELL (i.e.; make money directly from) or use the image for bad purposes (like slandering people, porno, etc...)

Since you're NOT doing any of the above, there is no problem in using the image. I would simply add a reference in a text file stating where the wallpaper came from.

It's a bit like when magazines ask me if they can include Winstep applications on their cover cd. My reaction is always a bit of 'Doh!' since the License Agreement specifically states that you MAY freely re-distribute the shareware versions of the applications via media intended to make shareware available to the public for trial, such as magazine cover cds or the web.

Then again, nobody ever reads the License Agreements. :D

Yeah, I had read all of that actually. It was the one that said this that concerned me:

I know it's not a website template, but I am distributing the wallpaper made of their work. People can get very picky when it comes to ripping and permission etc. I think that it should be fine. But I am not sure what others think. I'll ask the question on the stock.xchng forum and go from there.

*intend to sell*

Their problm is with you making money from their photos. You are NOT making money from their photos. End of story. :D
