I'm using the latest "xTreme". I'm having problems with the email check. It checks my verizon account OK but I get no messages indicated when it trys to check my hot mail account. Is it possible to check my hot mail with xtreme?

Jorge will correct me if I am wrong, but I think only POP3 and IMAP can be checked. I don't think hotmail is accessable via POP3 or IMAP.

I could be wrong though.

I don't know anything about Hotmail but isn't it just web-based (webmail)?
The email checker does POP3 and IMAP and I'm not sure Hotmail does
either.

If it isn't either of those then it can't be checked unless there's a
third-party utility out there like YPOPs! (used for accessing Yahoo
mail via regular email clients).

Yep, Microsoft does not offer POP3 access to Hotmail. In order to use your Hotmail account via POP3/SMTP protocols (enabled in every mail client) you should subscribe the "MSN Extra Storage" or "MSN Internet Service" (by paying a fee - see? there is always a catch! ).

In theory it would be possible to come up with something by actually using HTTP to access hotmail behind the scenes, but that would be something quite complex, which MS could break at any time, and beyond the scope of the Email checker module.

I've been reading a bit more on this subject, and, regarding Yahoo, there *seems* to be a way to use it via POP3 (but don't hold me to it):

    Yahoo Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (port 110)

Yahoo Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (port 25)
For Gmail, the settings are:

Google Gmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 995)

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 465)

For the WorkShelf email checker, all you need is the POP3 address, port and SSL settings.

[EDIT] Sorry, gmail does have an SMTP server.

Hope this helps,

I use IncrediMail as my email program. It uses a server setting of "http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata" to access my hotmail. When I try this server with WorkShelf to check email I get nothing.

Note the 'http://' in that address. That means it's using the HTTP protocol, which is NOT supported by the email checker.
