Can you please post a screenshot of your desktop displaying the following:

1. WorkShelf Preferences open in the About tab.

2. An Explorer window displaying the contents of the Licenses folder (open WorkShelf Preferences, go to the Registrations tab, click the 'Show Folder' button).

If you can get both to display in a single screenshot, that would be great.

Some steps to troubleshoot after posting the above screenshot:

1. Delete all files in the Winstep Licenses folder.

2. Open WorkShelf Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, click the Troubleshooting Options button, click 'Restore File Associations'.

3. Save the license key attached into the original email with your license key into a folder in your hard drive.

3. *Double click* the file you just saved. All going well, you will get a dialog thanking you for registering Winstep Xtreme.

4. If that doesn't happen, what happened after double clicking the license key file? What is now inside the Winstep Licenses folder (if anything)?

5. If the above doesn't work and you didn't download your copy of Winstep Xtreme directly from the Winstep web site (or Cnet's Download.com) then that could the the cause of the problems you have been experiencing.

We'll tackle that next (and I'll explain exactly why) if the previous instructions don't succeed in getting your copy of Winstep Xtreme registered.

I am unable to get to the about page because the license has expired (trial) - the only tab it allows me to open or see is the Register tab.

Also the other trouble shooting steps are void since I cannot leave the Register tab to get to the Advanced one.

First things first (and I have to go now, but I'll be back later):

A license key file is NOT 19 KB in size as the one in that screenshot, but rather 1 KB at the most. Whatever that is inside the Licenses folder, it's not the attachment that was sent to you (perhaps you saved the whole email and manually renamed it?).

This is also the reason why you are going straight to the Registration tab - you are trying to use something as a key which is not a license key, and therefore triggers the protection check.

Delete the Xtreme.key file inside the Licenses folder and re-start Xtreme, it should now allow you to access the other tabs in Preferences.

More when I get back.

I deleted that file after my last post hours ago now, I just opened up the program and am still unable to access any other tabs.

I will see what I can do about the key from my email.

you were exactly right, I checked the email. It was exactly 19kb.

I was able to get the actual key and everything is working and I feel like an idiot.
