Nextstart (Winstep Xtreme 11.4 beta) has stopped work after install KB2534366 MS update patch for Windows 7 64-bit. Workshelf works OK. I reproduced this issue on my PC 3 times - I restored old OS from image and next installed KB2534366 via Windows Update. After installing this MS Patch, I can't run, move, delete, uninstall or rename Nexstart executable file.

Hi Janusz!

Are you sure it's KB2534366? I have the same update installed, also on Windows 7 64 bit, and I don't see any issues. Apparently the update only deals with how many Registry keys can be open simultaneously.

Also, what do you mean by you can't run, move, delete, etc..., NextSTART? What exactly happens?

I'll continue my investigation and let you know about results of my tests.

Best,

I found reason. After installing this update and OS reboot, Nextart.exe was locked somehow by my Comodo Internet Security, however Nexstart is on list of my trusted files in CIS. I never had before any conflicts between CIS and Winstep applications, so it puzzled me. Luckily I found easy fix for this, that is, I disabled CIS antivirus, next restarted OS and enabled antivir again. It unlocked Nextart on my PC.

That's weird. Hope you don't have to do that procedure every time you need to reboot.

Winstep software is now on Comodo's white list (they contacted me for this), but they require the binaries of new versions to be uploaded to a special Comodo White List FTP server, which is obviously only done with official versions, not beta versions like 11.4.

No I don't need repeat this operation, so I think this is not problem with CIS definitions and issue was limited only to my CIS installation. Probably during reboot after Win update, CIS somehow gone haywire :? .
