I've felt a little burned in the past over updates (all too frequent updates) that require you to buy the software all over again.

Just curious, I'm sure this is answered somewhere, but it must be buried, or I simply can't find it.

I'm not sure what you mean about 'all too frequent updates', as, from my point of view, that is actually a good thing.

Winstep applications are also under active development with new features being added all the time... the beautiful thing about upgrades is that you don't have to upgrade - unless you want to.

Purchasing Winstep Xtreme or Nexus Ultimate gives you a full year of free upgrades. Once that year runs out you can renew your upgrade subscription for another year for a fraction of the original price, and you are not penalized in any way if you don't renew your upgrade subscription 'on time'. Anyway, these is all on the upgrade policy FAQs I linked above.

updates are nice. too frequent means paying for something you've already paid for once.

If you manage to read the whole thread, it explains what happens 'behind the scenes' to developers who have chosen the 'free upgrades for life' and 'pay for major upgrades only' paths and the implications of those choices on users.

That post was written when Winstep's upgrade policy was still 'pay for major upgrades' only, by the way.

Hey, excuse me barging in, but I just have to say this:

I really like Nexus, it's been something I was looking for, for a long time, and I really like seeing it being refined and upgraded.
Having said that, I will be really worried if suddenly you (Jorge) start selling "lifetime" licenses. For me, that will only mean, no more development.

I subscribed to winstep xtreme last year. This software is simply awesome. Even if I chose not to subscribe for another year, I still have this awesome software which will give me many years of satisfaction. I will be renewing my subscription, simply because I am enjoying the software, and I want any and all future updates. This great software is constantly improving and getting better. Please read the article that Jorge linked to in his post. The subscription renewals are reasonably priced, and entirely optional.
If you try the software, chances are that you will realize the value. There is no other software that offers the features and customize-ability of Winstep Extreme, and that includes StarDock Software.
If you have a mechanic fix your car, your car will be fixed because you paid for it, however, would it make good business sense for the mechanic to agree to fix you car for free forever since you paid once?
I am simply trying to say that this software has been worth every penny to me. Everyday that I use my computer, I am enjoying the helpful, personal customization and enjoyable features which makes my work simple, and looks awesome too.
