Hi,

Alot of times when opening some applications like powerdvd and sometimes firefox or office the dock does not stay behind and jumps above other windows, i have chosen the option for the "dock to always be below other windows", but upon launching some programs the dock is above the program i launched, i have to double click "show desktop" in the bottom right corner when this happens and the the dock goes back below the window like it should have been. :?

-BUMP-

This problem is really irritating, alot of times when opening firefox or powerdvd, and so on.... it doesn't happen every time but 4 times out of 10 the dock doesn't stay below other windows and jumps above them, then i have to minimise the window then maximise again or double click the show desktop, to correct the problem.

Still happens in latest version,

I think the problem starts when my cpu is under full load doing a job, and i go to open some windows/programs and the dock does not stay below, when my cpu was not under load i didn't often notice this problem, so this may be the cause ?

Is there any way this can be improved in the next release ?

Open the Dock Properties panel, go to Behavior, click the Advanced button. Do you have 'Popup on Mouseover' enabled? If so, try disabling it.

popup on mouse over is not enabled,

This is my settings file http://www.mediafire.com/?037xjz3hzrt5y09

I in installed the dock for a friend and the problem is the same on their system, the dock sometimes comes above when it should be below, which means the user has to double click show desktop.

It happens to me too, but it's not dream88's situation. The difference is that I have set the dock to stay as same as the other windows.
For me it happens when I use stardock's SkinStudio and click on the desktop, the dock comes up above the SkinStudio window.

I think that in my case the dock had the previous active state (in fact I have started SkinStudio from the dock) and when the SkinStudio window lost the active state, returned it to the dock which came above the other windows.
I know that this is not very helpful but if it helps in anyway, glad to have helped :)

I am not using any other software that could interfere with the dock at all, i only have the dock and nothing else, and i always have it set to stay below other windows but the dock is misbehaving frequently, very irritating  .

I remembered something about layered windows (semi-transparent windows) having z-order problems from time to time, and that this was a bug in the OS.

Anyway, read THIS THREAD (particularly the posts by Neil Banfield) for a confirmation of this issue, even though the situation described was with WindowBlinds and Windows XP.

I read the article too but I think it has nothing to do with this issue. To me, it's just a bad top level windows Z-Order management; still a Windows bug and not of Nexus.
BTW, dream, are your friend and you using mouse window tracking? because by default it activates the window below the cursor and brings it on top of the other windows, with no regard to the Z-Order settings.

Mouse tracking ("Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse") is disabled already by default in windows and my friend also never uses that feature.

I checked in (Control Panel> Ease of Access> Change How Your Mouse Works) it is definitely disabled (the box is not checked).
