Hi Jorge:

[Not a native speaker.]

First of all congratulations for this wonderful application...

Now for my question: For the first time (at least as I can remember) I received a Winstep Update Manager v. 3.0.92 in a Zip file.
Is this a safe file coming from you? (I ask this because recently I had an issue with a virus and I'm just wondering...).

I think I can trust it because the "*.txt" file that's inside the Zipped file was written by you but...

Sorry if this one is a silly question!
Best regards
AC

Hey!

Anything coming through the Winstep Update Manager itself is legit. That's an update to the Update Manager in preparation to the upcoming v11.6 release.

This said, the Update Manager should have automatically installed that for you, with no need for you to worry about zip file details, etc... What happened in your case?

Hi Jorge:

Thank you for your quick and nice reply.

What happened was when I opened the update file it lead me to unzip program and inside there were two files:
update manager.exe and
read.me txt.

Well I unziped, installed the file and run the *.exe file. All seems OK.

Thank you once again.
AC

That's not possible, Aleister, or something is very, very, wrong.

Exactly how did you get the zip file?

First, here is what should have happened:

1. The Update Manager pops up and tells you there is a new version of the Update Manager itself.

2. You click 'Download Now'.

3. The file is automatically downloaded and the Setup program for the new Update Manager version runs.

4. You finish setup, which launches the new version of the Update Manager at the end.

5. The new version of the Update Manager tells you there are no other updates available.

If this is not what happened, what did happen? Furthermore, inside the zip there would be a file named 'setup.exe', not 'update manager.exe'.

Please don't tell me you got that zip file by email?!

Hi Jorge:

No I did not received the file by e-mail!!!

I was working and...
a pop up window appeared telling me that there was an update available.
I clicked Transfer file (or download file - I don't remember quite well).
After that a window of unrar opened; inside there were two files: one *.txt with a description related to the version that was signed by you. And the other was a setup.exe file.
    I installed it.
    After that I checked via nexus dock (right click)if there were updates;
One update was available and I updated.

Now I'm afraid!

I appreciate your advice
Thanks
AC
