Hello All,

I am a brand new Winstep user (Xtreme Beta version). I am running Windows XP.

When I first installed Winstep I allowed it to disable Active-X as was suggested. Yesterday I had to download some MS-Office updates and had to allow MS to enable Active-X again so I could receive the needed service pack update for Office.

Of course, soon afterward I had all kinds of conflict and resource problems, as had been predicted.

Now how do I disable Active-X again? Please answer in simple terms since I am a relative computer novice. If I must go into windows registry to disable Active-X please advise the steps to do that.

Thanks so much for your help!
Richard

Hi Richard! You should be careful with the terminology you use, ActiveX is quite a different beast from Active Desktop.

Go to the NextSTART Global Preferences tab and see if you have disabled the Active Desktop warning. If so, turn it on and re-start NextSTART - this should make NextSTART prompt you for permission to disable Active Desktop, in which case all will be done automatically.

If the warning is enabled, then let me know and I'll talk you through the steps required to disable it.

Paul, sorry for the confusion in terminology.

Appreciate your help. I think I'm OK for now.

One more question, do you know of anyone on the list that is available for coaching/mentoring me on Xtreme by telephone/email? I think I may need an hour or two over the next month and would expect to pay for the time, of course. Anybody come to mind?

Thanks much,
Richard

Why don't you just make a list of questions and leave them here on the forums? I think the replies might be useful for other first time users as well, plus some of them might end up in the FAQ. :D

I could give you my phone number, but that would mean international calls (I live in Portugal) and time zone issues (GMT here  ).
