Dear all

In an attempt to reorder items on the Shelf i discoverd a very strange effekt.
My assumption that the items on the Shelf behave as short cuts seems to be completely wrong:
Moving an item (in the Desktop tab at least) to another location moves the application file out of its installation directory into the desktop directory!
For example, I dragged the FM icon to the right:

It turned out, that a copy of the icon appears not at the drop-position and the application program is moved to the desktop - hence clicking on the original icon does not find the program:

This rises the questions:

• In which order are the items arranges by default?
• How can I change this default order?

Any suggestions are welcome

First thing you need to understand is the concept of *Regular* tabs and *Folder* tabs in the Shelf.

Regular tabs are just like docks, anything put there is nothing but a shortcut to the original file. Shortcuts there can be moved and re-organized at will.

Folder tabs (like the Desktop tab), however, are 'viewports' into *real* folders in your hard drive. Anything you do there, you are doing to actual files in that folder. Sort order is also always alphabetical, items in folder tabs (and virtual folder tabs such as the Control Panel tab, etc...) cannot be re-organized.
