Hi,

I started using Nexus 12 about a week ago and loving it so far, but I noticed that when ever I move around the arrow of my mouse anywhere on the dock it starts to "flicker" as if it's not stable kind of like a light bulb that's about to die. This is really noticeable when I move the arrow up and down. I don't know if this normal, but if anyone can provide more info I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Without actually seeing what you mean, I'm not quite sure I understand what is happening.

1. What mouse over effect are you using for the dock?

2. Can you please post a screenshot of your desktop showing the dock? Might give me a clue. :D

This occurs with any effect, but it is more noticeable without any effects.

Hmmm... I have any idea of what might be going on.

Let's try this: set the dock icon size to 16x16 (minimum size). Does the flicker still happen now?

Actually I just tried my theory here and the dock behaved as expected, so I don't think that's it... But let me know anyway, please.

Well, I'm having a hard time just trying to imagine what this flicker might look like...

Ok, let's try something else then:

1. Set the dock icon size to whatever it was.
2. Open Nexus Preferences, go to the Advanced tab.
3. Click the Backup button and make a backup of your current settings.
4. Now click the Troubleshooting Options button.
5. In the dialog that pops up, select 'Reset Settings Only'.
6. Exit Preferences.

Does the flicker still happen with the settings now set to default?

You can restore your previous settings by going to the Advanced tab of Nexus Preferences and clicking the Restore button.

If the flicker still happens, do you have any software that allows you make a video of your desktop?

Well, in that case I have to see for myself what you mean by 'flicker'. Do you know how to make a video and post it on Youtube?

Also, since resetting the dock settings to default did not fix the problem, this is likely an issue specific to your system (no one else is complaining about it). As such, it could be anything, even a problem with your video driver. I assume you already tried rebooting your computer, and that doing this did not make the problem go away?

Well, upload it anywhere on Youtube, you can even make the video private. Once Youtube gives you the video's URL, paste that URL here.

I wouldn't call that 'flicker'. If you manage to pause the video at just the right times, you will notice that the dock completely disappears, then appears again in the next frame or so.

It's a pity we can't see the mouse pointer in that video to see what it's doing.

You know what it looks like to me? That you have disabled animations, or set animation speed to the fastest setting possible. This would cause the dock to hide and show instantly, instead of smoothly sliding into and out of the screen edge.

You see, when you move the mouse pointer up and down, you could be triggering an edge bump when you hit the screen edge with the pointer, which normally would show (or hide, if toggle is on) the dock.

If animations are disabled or the animation speed set to minimum, the edge bump toggle is on - or if the dock is set to auto-hide automatically and the auto-hide delay set to minimum - then we might see something similar to this as you move the mouse into and away from the dock and the screen edge.

Can you please post two screenshots, one showing the the General tab and another the Behavior tab, of Nexus Preferences?

Well, there goes another theory down the drain.

Don, I have to admit I just don't know what is causing that, sorry. My best guess (and that's just what it is) is that some 3rd party software (or driver) on your system is interfering with Nexus.

Something else for you to try: what happens if you undock Nexus (turning it into a floating dock), drag it to the middle of the screen (in other words, away from the screen edges), and then mouse over it? Same thing?

Also, what mouse over effect are you using for the dock? None?
