Hello,

I was wondering if this was a problem due to NextStart. Sometimes, when I start my Win 7 64bit machine running McAfee security center and Malwarebytes and just before NextStart starts, I get two server busy popups. When I press the retry button, the real windows start menu appears and then goes back to the NextStart start menu. Any help will be appreciated. :D

Regards

Can you please post a screenshot of that 'server busy' message?

Hello Jorge,

As luck would have it, the popup didn't come up at this startup. I will send it to you on the next startup.

Regards

Hello Jorge,

Attached, please find the screenshot of my computer startup today.

Sometime, there are two popups and like today, there is one. I created the background with Bryce.

Regards

Ah, THAT dialog.

That would happen when there is a pending Automation (OLE/COM) operation and a mouse or keyboard event occurs (in other words, WorkShelf or NextSTART is waiting on a 3rd party COM server to provide data and seems frozen to the user - if it receives keyboard or mouse input during that time, Windows displays that message).

The problem is actually with the 3rd party COM server which blocks for too long (startup is a very busy time).

This said, in v11.1 I had already set the proper switches for this message not to be displayed in case of an OLE COM Server time out, so I'm not sure why you are seeing that. Are you sure it is related to Winstep Xtreme and not some other application?

Hello Jorge,

What gives me rise to believe that its NextStart is when I press the retry button on the popup, the real startmenu pops up and then if I press the start button, the NextStart startmenu pops up. I forgot to mention that I also use WinPatrol.

Regards

That is not making much sense for me, sorry, unless by 'Start Menu' you actually mean '*taskbar*'. Is that correct?

Hello Jorge,

Sorry for the mix up. The program menu which is activated by clicking on the windows button all the way to the lower left of the screen. I'm using the K-Tek 4D theme which replaces the windows start button with a K.

I'm the one who apologizes, just trying to understand what is going on... :D

Do you mean that the NextSTART menu pops up at Windows startup without your clicking on the Start/K button? Or do you get that dialog only when you click the Start/K button after startup?

Hello Jorge,

What happens, is that somewhere during startup, the server busy popup pops up. Sometimes two. After, it seems that everything is loaded the pop ups are still there. If I click the "switch to button on the popup" up pops the old "windows 7 start menu" by itself. This happens only once. If I were to click the start button again, up pops the NextStart start menu" I tried a screenshot but it happens too quick for me to capture it. I'll have to shut down this computer for a few days, so if its OK with you, I'll pick it up later.

Regards
